Fortunately, public transport is cheap, reliable and operates round the clock so NHS staff can rely on it to get them to and from their shifts, on time, day or night, right?
Nothing like a another tax just to get to the work place. Only this one is going to a private corporation.
Kind of crazy that NHS staff have to pay, especially given the job they do. I’ve never had to pay to park at any company I’ve worked for
If we stopped paying private hotels to house boat men from Calais for 1 week we could pay for all NHS parking for a year?
Captive market baby, make it £5 per hour, not like it paid for itself in the first few years and maintenance for the next 20 in a couple of years. Let the capitalism flow…. /s
Better title:
Private companies ripping off our NHS staff who need to park to care for you, to do their job.
I find it ridiculous that private companies are managing these carparks. I don’t think people would moan as much as we do now, if we knew payments for these carparks when visiting were going back into the NHS.
Staff should have it free. Visitors could still pay towards upkeep costs of the carpark along with some profits, for the NHS. Granted it could be difficult to run these carparks across the nation. Much harder than simply leasing the land for some quick cash to private firms.
But the government surely have enough knowledge to run these in house and make things easier/cheaper for everyone. But I guess it’s not in their Interests to help normal people.
47 billion of pure wealth extraction from NHS workers. Most of which goes to large multinational companies.

Of course for their cut of your wage, they aren’t actually staffing the car parks, don’t bother really providing much security and will even fine you if you park over the obscured lines in the run down gravel car park because you couldn’t see.
Needs to be clear this is for NHS England & Northern Island.

Its free in Wales & Scotland.
I would march for NHS staff to be exempt from these parking charges.
I can imagine it’s a bit of a catch 22.
Trusts don’t want to be responsible for all the admin so they hand over to a private firm (enforcement, permits, etc.) and private firms won’t take the car parks on unless there’s a decent profit to be made
I guess a middle ground would be for the gov to create an arms length company (like Network Rail) and the individual trusts would contract them to run the car parks. Since profit wouldn’t be the main aim, the car park fees should be a lot less.
No idea why anyone would go work for the NHS. Hurdles put in front of you in every facet of the job. I suppose they get a wee discount in some shops to make up for it all!
Can they not pay in claps as that’s what the government though was better than a decent pay rise
“The Lib Dems should come clean as to which services they would cut to subsidise parking further”
How about they take the 47m costs out of the 147m profit? Then they don’t have to cut anything unless to Tory scum want to explain why the NHS needs to be funded by parking costs.
