So they are protesting being liable for hurting/ killing people while driving negligent? I don’t understand this strike. Would someone more familiar with India explain why this is a big deal?
They act like grand theft autoing the shit out of pedestrians/other drivers without consequences was a perk that was taken way. The fuck?
These people are stupid
Hypothetically, what would their reaction be if someone were to accidentally drive a truck into their protest. Would they be for the driver getting off?
if a driver causes a serious road accident due to careless driving and then leaves without informing the police or any official, they could be punished with up to 10 years in jail and a fine of Rs 7 lakh. ($8,403)

How about drive more responsibly?
wow india, very cool.
India going full India
Hopefully this means the scam callers can’t get into work now
“Don’t hit people with your lorry and run.” “But if I don’t run, I’ll be attacked!” “Don’t hit people. Did I stutter?”
Aaaaaand you wonder why there’s a stereotype for bad drivers when they’ve moved to other countries.
If India could just cut their population down to something closer to 300 million, they’d be a lot better off as a country in a lot of ways.
Have I read that correctly? They’re striking because they’d get into trouble for driving over a pedestrian! What F ING planet are the Indians living on?
Checkmate ICE owners.
Truck drivers are one of the least skilled and least educated trades there are here, pretty much barely above unskilled manual labor. It is not like the west where drivers are generally well trained and highly skilled and responsible.
On the other hand there are hardly any well controlled pedestrian crossings here which means people, bicycles, etc pretty much play real life frogger everywhere you look.
It’s not a good combination.
So..basically they outlawed Truck Kun can no longer freely isekai random people to a new fantasy life
r/fuckcars material
After reading some comments on why they run, shouldn’t they create a law for Lynch Mobs or for retaliation to protect the criminals before their prosecution. Otherwise, this looks like a losing battle for both sides.
Throw every driver involved in jail for a week. You are literally protesting the government actually holding you accountable. Fuck you
These types of drivers exist everywhere in the world.
What a bizarre law to be against.
TIL: 1 lakh = 10^(5)
“There are about 1 lakh trucks that ferry petrol and diesel…”
I actually see a correlation between the Indian hit and run law and the Indian anti rape laws.
People not paying attention get run over be drivers not paying attention. Driver runs and hides while people riot. Government does nothing.
Women get raped by assholes, then get more men join in. The rape victim runs and hides, tells family, family and friends start rioting. Government does nothing.
It seams to me that any law in India doesn’t matter since the government is only focused on murdering people in other countries.
Complaining about getting 5 to 10 for killing someone and they strike? Fucking stupid.
Horn honking or not: it’s usually who gets to intersection first wins!
Comment section is happily jumping at xenophobia but I’ve never seen a single country in which drivers don’t actively try to shed as much responsibility as possible, often at the expense of any notion of moral.
Currently living in the US, most drivers I know (ie most people) would gladly see hit-and-run laws repealed. Lived in a few countries in Europe and Latin America: exactly the same.
Is it disgusting that these people are protesting such a law? yeah, very much so. But the underlying brain rot is far from unique to the region
They may run short of fuel in India , but there’s no chance they will ever run out of ‘negligent drivers’.
