For those who don’t know, I mean this website here [https://www.meetup.com/](https://www.meetup.com/)

Is this actually a good way to meet people ? What kind of people goes there, mostly “expats” or also the average Swiss ? What’s the average age ?

I browsed a bit through Meetup and there are a few meetings around where I live, but I don’t know what kind of people goes there

  1. I never went but I can tell you that the average swiss person will not go to such a meeting

  2. What is a Swiss meetup? The audience will depend on the topic.

A meetup about learning German will have almost no Swiss people, an IT one may have a handful and one about hiking probably will have a few more.

In general Swiss people don’t really do online meetup though, that’s a very American concept that doesn’t really work as well in Europe, especially in more introvert societies like Switzerland where the circle of people the average Swiss person deals with has been almost locked since they were 16

  3. Totally depends on the Meetup, but most I’ve been to seem to be pretty international with Swiss participants in the minority.

If it’s a Meetup for a hobby or interest you’re into, or some kind of mixer / walk-and-talk, then yes, it’s a good way to meet people.

  4. What do you mean with meetups? AFAIK this isnt really a thing for swiss people

  5. I tried it once. Wasn’t a single Swiss person there. Not that that’s a problem. It wasn’t specifically an ex-pat centric event, either.

I feel like Swiss-German people are far less likely to attend something like this than Swiss-French and Swiss-Italian.

  6. There’s an English meetup group where I live. No Swiss at all.

  7. Yes. Regularly. There are some nice meetups for IT topics. These meetups are good to meet new people with the same interests, same job but from other companies. To share ideas and solutions.
