  1. >Majority in new poll say Jan. 6 was attack on democracy that should never be forgotten

I hope this one’s right—at least a bit. It’s been incredibly depressing over the years to hear the conservatives I know continue to hold animosity over things like dijon mustard or a tan suit but are like, “January Sixth? No biggie, fuckin’ move on already!”

Unfortunately, those numbers are still way too close considering he went on national television and incited an attempt to overthrow the duly elected government. This shouldn’t be up for debate at all: he did it on live television::

    >In the poll, 55 percent of respondents said the Capitol riot was an “attack on democracy that should never be forgotten.” Forty-three percent said that “too much is being made” of the riot and that it is “time to move on.”

  2. Problem being that the MAGA voters and those in Washington that day don’t think it was an attack on democracy, but rather, an attempt to save it. Irony being that they had to save it from themselves, but hey.

  3. If you’re on the fence about whether or not this was an attack on democracy – ask yourself how you’d feel if it was the opposing party doing it.

If you don’t believe this was an attack on democracy – move to Russia; you’ll like it better there.

  4. Just a reminder. A clear majority of voters voted for Clinton in 2016. The majority doesn’t matter. The majority in 5 specific states matters.

  5. I’ve had enough shitty unprecedented, historical, and “never forget” moments for one lifetime. Can’t we just get an unprecedented time of peace where nothing fucking happens and everybody got a free teddy bear for a decade or 2. I got books I want to read and sleep to catch up on. I’m tired boss…

  6. Half the USA sees horrible domestic terrorism, coup and insurrection by a twice impeached ex president with 91 felonies against him and half say it was a normal tourist visit.

  7. To teach kids about democracy, I let them vote on dinner. They picked pizza. Then I made tacos because they don’t live in a swing state.

  8. But yet people view the orange turd and his rhetoric (and all too thinly veiled fasciitis tendencies) with a kind of meh stance. It CAN happen here. Voting will be a way out BUT not the way to fix this.

  9. Absolutely wild to me that this isn’t 90-95% of people.

When Trumpers and other republicans were watching TV on Jan 6, they had to believe something terrible was happening at the time, right? This is supposed to be the party that’s big on symbolism and patriotism.

All it took was some media spin for it to go from clear insurrection to friendly tour through a monument in their eyes.

  10. We all saw it on live tv. We saw trumps speech on live tv. We all saw Babbitt get shot and die for trumps cause on live tv. Polls are useless here.

  11. Unfortunately, most major news outlets still call it a “riot” – instead of an organized, planned insurrection.

  12. Literally everyone who planned, promoted, and engaged in the attack should be seen as traitors to their country and treated as such. the fact that this is up for debate is appalling and the effort to whitewash the whole thing is just as bad at the attack itself. It was on camera in full public view and I think every American should take a hard look at anyone who would try to dismiss, mislead, or justify such an attack. Not only is it in American, but it sets the stage for it to happen again.

  13. Sorry but that “poll” doesn’t offer much hope. Or anything new, to be fair.

55% is barely the majority — it’s the Democrats and Independents that already maintain this belief. And over 40% think an attack to overturn the election is being made into a bigger deal than it is.

    Cool.

  14. Remember, remember the 6th of Janvember, the Trump-man’s treasonous plot. Low are our morals and short is our memory should this treasonous act be forgot.

  15. Yes it was an attack on democracy but don’t leave out that it was done using weaponized stupidity.

  16. The other 48% like to eat Cool Ranch Lead Paint Chips.

  17. Unless you’re a Republican, then deny, gaslight, and delay everything until it’s forgotten…

  18. Well ya…

You don’t forget or forgive open and violent – insurrection, sedition and treason.

    Ever.

  19. They should make a J6 remembrance day similar to Armistice Day.

  20. 55% think trump attempted an insurrection. Trump polling at 49% in a general election…. Hmm…

  21. And the one thing they have no answer for is what the fuck Trump was doing for 3 hours. Keep making the 43 percent explain that – they can’t.

  22. I didn’t get asked, but I will say it’s hard to pull off an insurrection. But doing it with a few thousand people and no guns, tanks or bombs against the us…. Idk .0000000000001% chance of success?

  23. Every time I see a headline like this, I ask “is ‘majority’ between 55 and 65 percent?” The answer is always yes.

So hey, media and pollsters, I can save you some time on all Trump related questions: something like 35% of the country are completely brainwashed and will always give the pro Trump answer, 55% live in reality, and the last ten percent are just happy to have someone to talk to and will give whatever answer they think will keep you on the phone longer.

  24. Barely a majority and not high enough

In the poll, 55 percent of respondents said the Capitol riot was an “attack on democracy that should never be forgotten,” but 43 percent said “too much is being made” of the riot and that it is “time to move on.”

  25. Hopefully every idiot who was apart of this and those who claim it was a “peaceful demonstration” have that as part of their legacy forever.

  26. Lock them & their leader all up & send them to their Morherland. Russia.
    I hear they need soldiers…

    Only kidding…slightly.

  27. I remember walking into the break room to see the Confederate flag waving over the Capitol’s balcony. Never thought I’d ever see the day where such a thing was even remotely possible.

It was at that moment that the only thought I had was, “This was it.” Especially when Trump was nowhere to be seen, and nobody could get a hold of him to stop it.

The fact that people are still fighting to this day to convince others that it wasn’t that big of a deal is just beyond incomprehensible to me.

  28. Attempted attack. It should be emphasized that the fuckers failed. The attempt was still a crime though and should be treated as such.

But a crime of that magnitude doesn’t happen on its own; a crowd of people don’t act independently without direction

  29. When maga says they were “let in” you have already lost them. They don’t like the idea of America anymore and been corrupted to see that trump has been assaulting our nation for years.

  30. Any one else sick of “majority” meaning 51% and not 90%

  31. Beware and be wary

    The sixth of January

    A Republican Treasonous Plot

    I see no reason

    Republican treason

    Should ever be forgot.

  32. Looking at [the raw data,](https://www.washingtonpost.com/documents/1f428bba-56ee-4800-b00d-7fd1b0004627.pdf?itid=lk_inline_manual_2) the numbers are actually slightly worse today than they were two years ago. Fewer saying they think J6 was “mostly violent,” more saying the punishments are “too harsh,” fewer saying Trump deserves a “great deal of responsibility,” fewer saying they think Biden’s win was “legitimate,” etc.

This is not a good sign for our country.

  33. The fact that this headline is even newsworthy shows just how far we’ve fallen in this country. Jan 6 was abhorrent and everybody should feel that way, no matter which way your politics lean.

  34. 100%. That was a national trauma on par with 9/11.

Until there are consequences for the people who orchestrated the entire insurrection, there will be no healing.

  35. In the same site there’s a story about how 1/3 of Americans polled think Biden is an illegitimate president.
