Only up north, I’d say 1/3 of Sweden. Down south it’s of course ice and snow, but the temp where I live is just about 0 degrees C.
In Sweden it’s like 10-20k that live where it’s -40c currently.
It’s barely freezing in the south where most live.
Guy in the picture is taking a comfortable bath.
No i put on more clothes than my undrwear when i go out.
Only north of Sweden achieves that cold temperatures, in the south it was -7°C today and snowfall. Meh lol it’s nothing compared to -40°C.
-7°C isn’t even cold, it’s only the wind that makes it cold af.

Well, the regions that are having-40 are prepared and maybe even used to that kind of temperature. -35 is the the coldest I’ve ever experienced, as a kid, and it was okay. Maybe the school let us stay inside during recess but everything else was as usual. Still had to walk 2km and then wait for the school bus.
Yes, it’s cold but besides ski liftes being closed and all passenger trains north of Umeå are cancelled until thursday (safety reasons, can’t guarantee to keep people warm or rescue them in time in case of a stop) everything is buissness as usual.
And in the south it keeps on raining and flooding destroys houses… I prefer cold and snowy winters.
No. Unlike the Brits, we know how to build proper houses.
-33 in the city I live 🥲
Appeanrly swedit is almost entirely fjollträsk people, should have figured.
Its not exceptional, but most trains north of Umeå has been canceled for two days I think. Most because -35C temperatures and its frankly dangerous if a train would get an error and have to stop in those temps.
-40 isnt something we get every winter, but its not uncommon either at the very northernmost parts.
For umeå it was the coldest day in 12 years with -30.7, so not common, but not extremely rare either.
This morning I was actually freezing a bit, when I went out to my mailbox, in my underwear, to get the newspaper 🥶❄️
Swedish homes are warmer in the winter than English homes are in the summer.
Up here in the north its horrible, my regular evening walk is cut to only 30min due to minus -25.
I’m in the north right now. It’s cold as fuck (-30), and you don’t really want to go out if you can avoid it, but it’s usually only a few days until it goes back to more sane temps (-20 to -25).
-7 to -17 this week it says. Been like -2 to -10 last couple of days
a couple of weeks ago there was like to week of around -20 and think it got to -23 as the coldest.
So would say kinda good weather can’t complain. Worse when it dips into the plus side.
But so so much snow, just keep snowing everyday and the piles are getting kinda big now kinda need a truck to come and take some.
My parent up north in Sweden had minus 29 today, dad said it was perfect day to stay in and drink cognac. Mum thought it was perfect weather to re- organize the cupboards.
Sigh. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. I walked to the store today in -32c with several layers of clothes and did not freeze at all.
Also I once biked to school at -39c, that was interesting because it was so cold that the steeringbar was stiff from the cold so you really had to push to steer 😀 I can only imagine what it does to cars in the long run. But again. Layers layers layers. You don’t have to freeze if you don’t want to.
Honestly this is really nothing to talk about 😀
Well insulated homes, car preheaters and clothes for the weather. Not freezing at all. I have a colleague who wears a T-shirt outside until it drops below -5, the guy is built like a bear though.
We just want it to be “lagom” and we’re fine.
I haven’t experienced that low temp but I can say that 2 degrees with icy rain feels much colder than -25
Sweden, north to south, is about 1600 km (or a 1,000 miles in freedom units). If you start at the northernmost point of Scotland and go 1600 km due south you end up around the northern edge of Spain. No Brit would think the climate is the same in Glengolly, Scotland as it is in Bilbao, Spain – and yet here we are…
I live in Norrland. I flew to Stockholm today. At home, it was -35c (-28f), so cold that my flight was delayed by over an hour because they couldn’t get the fuel pumps working to refuel in the cold.
In Stockholm, it’s -6c (21f). Most Swedes live in the south (and assume everyone else lives there), which is where Stockholm lies, which is why most people in this thread will tell you “lol no it’s not that cold”.
As some of my friends up north said earlier today: Free of mosquitos and snakes in the forest. Perfect.
It’s cold but not an issue. We had -31 today and I rode my bike to work as usual. Had to stop and lower my hood cause my head was sweating. The only issue was that the rubber coverings on the wires froze and contracted so it was difficult to change gears.
-36°C where I am today, being from southern sweden I can’t say I’m pleased😭

The British media get hysterical at -3.
