So is shooting someone in VR going to be treated as real as well?
‘cos that’s a whole lot of crime that needs investigating.
This is just a rehashing of the “my character was assaulted while playing GTA V” outrage that happened years ago
at most it was verbal/text abuse (which are absolutely issues in any online space children have access to), anything else isn’t possible on Metaverse, it’s incredibly corporate and sanitised
in this day and age I’d kinda expect a 16 year old to know better when using what’s basically a chat room, and this screams of the parent/s hysteria
Im going to the Hague for the things I’ve done in Battlefield, FIFA and CoD then
Never mind GTA
I tricked someone into going into the wilderness on runescape, before killing them and taking their full rune and r2h.
Perhaps I should save this confession till I’m on my deathbed.
> About 21% of children aged between five and 10 had a virtual reality (VR) headset of their own in 2022
Really would rather them focus resources on sexual abuse / assault in the physical world……
I wanted to get in before the “omg, I must have done *actual* war crimes playing COD” comments but too late.
Like come on – there is a game, then there is using the game as a communication device to harass/abuse people.
If I had a restraining order out that prevented communication, and that someone sent me messages over PSN/XBoxlive or any game with a chat function – they’d be breaching that order.
I’m not sure what form of abuse this is, but for example if my avatar tries to simulate rape with another persons avatar (especially if I *know* it’s a child) – isn’t that still trying to communicate something abusive, even it’s not something in text?
Copying my original comment from the first thread now deleted and also gonna say, that it’s not an attack on gamers, try imagining its your under-16 daughter suffering it. In other words, try having some empathy.
I imagine they are investigating not because of the attack in general, but because it was against a child and that child has suffered because of it. Plus psychology is still out on whether this sort of behaviour leads to an escalation in the real world.
Plus on a personal note, who the fuck rapes someone in a game. If your mindset is, “cool, a game. Let’s push the boundaries and rape someone” you need help.
It’s mostly to do with vr chat the game that kids see all over YouTube as a long term player myself it comes down to ignorant parents who don’t look into what they’re getting their kids into a game like VRChat should not be acceptable to children most of the avatars people use are sexual in some way or straight up racist like a kkk avatar and the games very adult oriented it has lots of toxic individuals too the amount of times I’ve been in a public world and ran into children using a quest 2 it’s honestly ridiculous
Police claim they’re underfunded which is why they’re so shit, but then they’re spending resources investigating virtual assaults committed in VR.
You may not be able to feel the metaverse but the noncing will be real.
Meanwhile there are real victims of real crimes waiting for justice.
The online safety bill won’t prevent this, do you honestly think a bunch of nonces like this wouldn’t have used a VPN or some other method to hide their identities? My dad’s a boomer and he understands his to use one, there’s no excuse for this utter waste of money.
Given there is a massive void in kids fun for tech or real life nowadays, of course they’ll want meta etc…
Tbh, initially I thought this was a waste of police time, but in reality, its just another level to sexually conversing with minors.
The only crime here is the parents allowing their children on the Internet unsupervised. I’ll grant it’s gross af.
I was assaulted MULTIPLE times in the Lion’s Pride Inn. I reported to Stormwind police and they have done NOTHING. Alliance authorities are fucking USELESS.

That statistic *cannot* be correct?
Edit: Is not correct, Sky have misquoted: https://old.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/18wuzzj/police_investigate_sexual_abuse_of_young_girls/kg1vfgc/
