Eurostar returns to service but other trains cancelled amid severe weather
New Year’s Eve at London St panas International and it looks and feels an awful lot happier than it did this time yesterday on Saturday the 30th of December all 41 Euro star trains in and out of London and panas international were cancelled leaving over 30,000 people with their New Year travel plans
In TAS today trains are running pretty normally there are going to be delays because the problem that we have which is flooding in the tunnel beneath the temps on the highp Speed Line uh into Kent that uh is only working on one of the two tunnels and so therefore there
Will be a a queuing system in place and yet everyone is going to get where they need to be if they are booked today and that’s the crucial thing most unfortunately we are in the position where if you do not have a confirmed booking for today you are not going to
Be able to travel on Eurostar all those 30,000 passengers go to the back of the queue it’s a very difficult time to uh find Alternatives the last British Airways flight um for today from Paris to London was sold for almost £700 and few Alternatives if I were in
Paris or Brussels or Amsterdam desperate to get back I would try before maybe a ferry maybe a bus and from the Netherlands a train plus a ferry elsewhere well we’ve got dozens of cancellations in and out of London St panras International some of them are high-speed domestic trains from here to
Places like DOA and to uh Canterbury others are for trains on tling which has staff shortage today dozens of trains cancelled including all the night services that would normally run in the early hours of New Year’s Day across at uh King’s cross I’ve counted more than 20 cancellations or curtailments of Ln
Inter city trains and wherever you’re going it is quite likely if you’re traveling within the UK by rail that you will encounter some disruption so do try to make your journey in good time if you are traveling on Future Days on Eurostar very much the hope is that
Things will be back to normal meanwhile well for the poor passengers who spent many of them hours here yesterday only to find out eventually that they they had no hope of traveling I just hope that they get where they need to be and that they like you have a Happy New Year
Eurostar services are running as normal on 31 December after a flood in the tunnel under the Thames forced cancellations the day before, Simon Calder has said.
The Independent’s travel correspondent was on the scene in St Pancras International Station.
However, domestic services in the UK have been disrupted by severe weather with cancellations across many lines, including on the Thameslink, Southwestern and LNER.
