  1. Can set minimum pricing for Alcohol but setting maximum prices for Antigen tests would be interfering with the market…. They’re absolute hypocrites

  2. Do you really want this current government to introduce rent caps? They’ll cap it at something mental like €1600 to €2000.

Edit: I feel like I need to expand on this comment a bit more based on the replies. A good rule of thumb is that rent should never be more than 30% of your income.

Minimum wage is now €10.50 p/h and working full time that shakes out to around €19,370 per year. 30% of that is around €485 per month.

A living wage in Ireland now is apparently around €2064 per month. So €620 per month per person is about the most rent anyone should be paying.

So a sensible maximum rent cap is around €1200 per month.

  3. It’s called price fixing, just re-branded at MUP.
The joys of a manipulated market.
Remember, you are only allowed state approved fun and you better be ready to pay for it.

  4. There is nothing more I hate than smug Twitter users. The confidence she has talking about shit she has no idea about is astounding

  5. In 2020, 1,902 landlords left the market.

2,080 landlords have left the market in 2021.

Why give them more reason to leave the market?

  6. I was looking at an eight pack of heineken and it is till around the 14 euro mark. It was kind of that way before this new minimum pricing.

How is this druids glen more expensive?

  7. I like it because it means that poor children are even poorer, as their parents drink exactly the same amount. Plus more spirits, so more battery.

  8. They have friends who are supermarket owners and friends who are landlords. They have a rough time keeping them all happy but they’re doing the best. And a bonus is that they get to fuck over low income people too! Happy days for Government scumbags!

  9. I see Tsykie went from 1.65 to 2.50 a bottle; if our beer can get a 50% overnight increase … maybe our rent can get a 50% overnight decrease?

  10. People feeling mentally drained/vulnerable and possibly leaning on drink. The government faces two options. One, address the toll on people’s mental health. Or two, put a toll on drink, boosting the tax intake for the government so they can buy another million euro printer and sell state land to foreign vulture funds for pennies.

    Option two it is!

  11. I just pity all the rich people.

This price increase won’t affect them at all with all their money, so they’ll all become massive alcoholics, with massive health issues, while the poor folk get all the health benefits by not drinking so much alcohol.

For once the government are looking out for the small guy! /s

  12. Rent caps should not be introduced in my opinion. If the government want to improve the situation they have two options.

    1. Build more houses and apartments and change planning laws to allow to build up in cities with options of 1,2,3 bed apartments

    2. Buy out private landlords and provide cheaper rent to tenants based on means test.
