  1. They should have made their home earthquake proof. It’s not like earthquakes are rare in Japan.

  2. Such a bad string of luck, I’m waiting for Godzilla to appear in the news next

  3. This is awful! Wishing Japan peace, prosperity and safety in the new year!

  4. RIP to everyone and condolences to the families and for everyone else over there. Terrible 🙁

  5. Whats disgusting right now are the Twitter accounts exploiting this conflict to farm Likes (so that they could presumably sell the accounts on the black market, presumably.)

They would steal someone else’s footage and then attach some emotionally manipulative drivel asking people to Like it. They would attach the same message to literally every video they steal.

  6. After an earthquake those numbers aren’t bad at all.

  7. this was a 7.6. turkiye’s was just about the same, at 7.8, and they had 50,783 deaths. shows you what proper building design with earthquakes in mind can really do

  8. Damm. I literally posted a comment as it was appearing on reddit about how my lizard brain would be screaming at me to get off a train mid quake stopped at a station. Got downvoted. Literally just talkin about how nature can be a scary bitch.

  9. My wife and I literally flew out of Haneda 9 minutes after the quake hit. We felt it while boarding the plane. JAL kept going about the boarding routine as if it was normal. We didn’t realize how bad the quake actually was until we landed in LA.

  10. Given the scale of this earthquake the relatively small body count testifies to the extensive preparations and precautions taken by the Japanese. This could have been much, much worse.
