Not sure that this was a good idea. Was it deserved? Absolutely. But what does this accomplish? I’d have to imagine this just bolsters support for the war in the Russia populace.
If they had been more careful, there might have been a way to quietly go after the data for the accounts connected to mining companies. At best, that could have slowed down mining operations that drive Russian trade and pulled money from the pockets of oligarchs. Plus, how embarrassing would it be to Putin that a group of hackers can manage to avoid harming civilians but their military can’t?
