Pooling and sharing.
Private companies based in Scotland sold lots of electricity to people/businesses down in England
“Gaargh they’re stealing from us!!”
A place that generates lots of energy selling it to a place with lots of people. I’m shocked
“Scotland” being private energy companies who are shafting the entire UK right now. Let’s not get it twisted, they’re bad guys no matter where you live.
> Analysts at Cornwall Insight predict Britain’s wholesale power prices will rise from an average of £96.64 per megawatt-hour in 2023 to £129/MWh in 2024 due to higher gas prices triggered by geopolitical events.

96.64 £/MWh * 13.27 TWh = £1.282 billion of resource transferred south of the border.
That’s ~20 days worth of North sea oil production for reference.

Scotland is the best country and England sucks.
This is the problem when you think of everything in terms of nations rather than just simple trade reality. Those are private companies selling that energy all over. England just happens to be the most populated market where it is likely to be sold. Would you prefer they sold it further afield at greater cost? This equates to jobs and investment in Scotland – what’s the issue?
The infrastructure is also entirely UK constructed via the National Grid and older technologies prior to privatisation. You are pitching this as if Scotland built these things in isolation and is now being fleeced, that simply didn’t happen.
Bullshit headline. Accurate one: private energy companies who have invested in infrastructure in Scotland generated 13.27 trillion watt hours of electricity that they sold to customers in England.
Do you lot think english people are the boogeymen?
Ahaha this is desperate even considering the OPs posting history.
Time tae shove the wires in the meter 😂
Please stop with these types of posts, you are making us look like provincial uneducated fools.

You don’t represent Scotland any more than the rest of us, so quit the spam posting of nonsense.
God this is ridiculous. And OP is an idiot or dishonest.
Imagine looking at the UK car export business and saying “we built X amount of cars, sent it to Europe, and paid for the privilege!”.
Energy infrastructure that is producing this electricity is private sector. They’ve invested in Scotland to access the UK market, which is huge. This isn’t the Scottish government building wind farms and then it being stolen by the English. This is a valuable sector that brings lots of jobs and investment to Scotland.
Also the amount of energy produced for a nationalised independent Scottish energy grid is far too high, and is *only* this high because of the UK market. If we weren’t connected to the UK market, this amount wouldn’t be produced. It makes no sense to try depict this as some sort of theft.
If say Scotland decided to just isolate its network, yes the price would shoot down. Temporarily. The market would realign in a massive demand shock, investment would literally collapse, energy businesses would go under and need immediate massive government bailouts (too much electricity is generated in Scotland for its own demand), and the investment would be redirected to the profitable markets (rUK). Decide to sell it to the EU? That’s the equivalent of selling it to England, no difference except worse overheads. The end result would be a loss of a vital sector to the economy and eye watering government debt. What the fuck do you want ?
And people who say “they’re using our resources!!” – the fucking wind ? It’s the same as any manufacturing, we use our resources and sell them.
Stuff like this is always very misleading, Anyways you’re part of the UK.. You know we share stuff…
OP is either intentionally trying to mislead or is just an idiot.
Wait to you find out what happened to all the Scotch 🥃 that Scotland produced in 2023 … and Transport Scotland paid for the privilege.
A chunk of Shetland Island’s pristine blanket peat bog has been dug up and replaced with 100+ windmills with an interconnect to the mainland put in place. We’ve become UK plc’s battery, whilst many inhabitants looking at the eyesore struggle with extreme fuel poverty along with some of the highest cost of living costs in the UK.
