  1. Quoth the prime minister: “I said that this government would clear the backlog of asylum decisions by the end of 2023. That’s exactly what we’ve done. Over 112,000 cases are now cleared with a lower grant rate than last year, a key part of our plan to stop the boats.” [[X](https://twitter.com/RishiSunak/status/1742120380226027632)]

The government’s own figures show that the overall asylum backlog has not been cleared at all.

On 1 January 2024, the Home Office said: “The prime minister’s commitment of clearing the legacy asylum backlog has been delivered.” But it also released statistics on 2 January that classified 4,537 cases as still “awaiting an initial decision” in a column marked “legacy backlog”.

94,062 applications were still awaiting an initial decision at the end of 2023, which is actually higher than the legacy asylum backlog was when the prime minister made his pledge. [[BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-67863380)]

  2. He’s claimed Rwanda is safe so he now thinks he can make any claim to be true.

  3. Tory lies? Not even news.

Not one of them has an ounce of integrity.

  4. A Conservative minister? Lying? That is quite the accusation. I don’t see why a minister, especially not the Prime Minister, would tell such a lie when there are serious and severe consequences if you’re caught. I’m sure the government will investigate this and do what they think is best.

  5. Just another tin pot Prime Minister. We need a change but I know Labour won’t cut it either. All the politicians are crap, have been for the past 20 years or more. There’s no integrity and they are all in it for their own personal gain whilst shafting this Country into the Dark Ages. Have any of them actually done any work apart from being politicians? No.

  6.

    there is form….

A car that Rishi Sunak was pictured filling with petrol to highlight his 5p cut to fuel duty last night did not belong to the chancellor.

  7. Let me quote Cleverly “No that’s a lie” to anything said that didn’t agree with the proven lies he was telling yesterday.

  8. Never trust a Tory, especially Sunak. He lies almost as much as Johnson.

  9. I am not shocked anymore.

What shocks me is how fast in the span of a decade or so it just became so politically acceptable to lie and carry on systematically.

  10. I promised to reverse my own decision not to process asylum applications.

What does he want a round of applause?

He decided not to process these claims, his government created this problem. They can’t then expect gratitude for actually doing what they should have been doing.

It’s like me deciding an hour before work, that I’m not going to work, but then changing my mind and actually going.

  11. Just wondering how many lies it’ll take, for this country to get up off its arse and do something about it… This situation of politicians lying to the public, so they can continue fleecing us is beyond a joke and there should be accountability and a suitable punishment in place, like losing your fuckin job for a start.. “Another Tory/politician lies”… Yeah, at this point, it’s like saying “water is wet”……. Until there is ACTUAL accountability for their behaviour, it’ll continue to happen.. A change in the system is needed, these fuckin parasites have gotten away with enough..

  12. -yep they’re all gone.

    -what?! All 112,000 of them?

-yep. They just went home. I don’t know the exact details. I think they just didn’t like the cold or something.
