  1. It’s nothing we don’t already know, but it shows that the party has outstayed its welcome in America. It’s time for us to archive it with the Whigs and Federalists.

  2. They love fascism because they are incapable of administering any other kind of government.

  3. I saw an old friend a few months ago and the election came up. She spent time talking about how she cared about climate change and women’s rights, but then went on to say she hated Biden and would be voting for Trump. When I asked aren’t you afraid of authoritarianism? She said, I quote: “I’d rather authoritarianism than whatever the fuck this is.”

She cares about everything the left cares about, but she wants the authoritarian. She has two daughters and tells me it breaks her heart they are not growing up with the same rights she had. But she’s voting for trump.

  4. It’s like the American nazi party of the 1930s all over again

  5. They love fascism as long as they get to be the people in power. Kinda like they like freedom of THEIR religion but not others.

  6. It’s not surprising given how many gluttons for punishment are within the GOP.

  7. I mean kind of obvious, as long as it’s hurting other people there’s a lot of poor conservatives with the worst crabs in a bucket mentality and a lot of rich ones that are stoked to preserve the hierarchy

  8. Well, nothing new. During WW2 most of the GOP supported Germany too.

  9. It’s a ridiculously easy formula. Sell a group of people on the notion they’ve lost something, that they are the true ones who deserve it, and that there’s only one way to get it back. Bend the knee and it’ll all work out.

  10. The thing that gets me is “Live free or die” like we’re the ones forcing them to have abortion, only vote republican and go back to pre 1950s when white folks reign supreme. They think economic prosperity the country has is only because of them folks spending time in the woods hunting ducks and turkey in lifted trucks

  11. They are fucking Confederates, of course they love fascism.

  12. Many republicans are self obsessed, delusional, under educated and void of empathy. Gullible idiots that prefer to have their thinking done for them and then play stupid when the boot comes out.

  13. How much of this is the outcome of being raised in deeply religious households – faith before facts and being comfortable with an authoritarian overlord who will whip you into a frenzy like an old school fire and brimstone preacher.

  14. And being anti fascist is like terrorism in the eyes of the radical right

  15. Never thought I’d see this country sink this low. Un-fucking-believable.

  16. They didn’t want fascism before because they got their way for the most part. Now that they’re told minorities, gays, trans, drag queens, etc etc, are some kind of threat, and laws are finally protecting more people equally, fascism is the simplest route to undo that in a democracy.

  17. They fear being relegated to just another segment of the general population instead of the dominant demographic because they worry the next dominant demographic will treat them the same way they had been treating those they saw as beneath them for all those decades.

So they turn to all-out fascism since that is the only path they now see to maintaining control and protecting themselves from the retribution they believe will be inflicted upon them (because they know that is what they would do if the roles were reversed because they are really just the worst type of people).

  18. The fact that most GOPs today think the removal/ban of the Democratic Party is “best” for the country is sickening. You cannot have a democracy with 1 party … if I am the Dems in 2024 .. the whole election is gonna be run GOP push towards fascism and their assault on democracy.

America is pretty divided right now, but the majority of the population still believes in the core constitution. You make that your rally cry you will win a ton of independent votes and the election. And that can trickle down to Senate and House seats ..

  19. They’re scared of a complex and challenging world full of things that they can’t or don’t want to try to understand, so they rely on their own tiny little worldview of their safe, comfortable status quo as something sacred that needs to be preserved at all costs. They look to anyone powerful who is ‘on their side’ and tells them they are the special chosen ones.

They don’t want to improve, they don’t want the truth, they just want to feel good, and all that requires is for their authoritarian thoughtmasters to tell them nice stories about their white supremacy and fascism, please tell them that they are the real people and that it’s all in the name of freedom.

  20. A lot of Americans…just kinda suck. Especially those still interested in politics in a Post-Trump world (which we definitely live in now…). Totally delusional and missing the point of human existence.

  21. I honestly can’t even tell what’s real anymore with headlines like this.

  22. Really important article. THIS is the story the media needs to be covering. THIS is the political discussion we need to be having.

    Nothing else matters right now.

  23. We know. They openly plan to make the United States an authoritarian religious state. The trouble is that too many people are apathetic or unaware of the reality which comes with further Republican power.

  24. MAGA wants to be ruled, not governed.
Like anyone who votes for the Face-Punching Party, they think it will only punch “other” people’s faces. Little do they know, no Face-Punching Party has ever just punched other people’s faces.

  25. Oh, the irony! To become the evil that our grandfathers died fighting against.

  26. They probably don’t even know what fascism is, just if it’s something Trump is wanting then they want it too. Bunch of morons.

  27. Republicans love fascism as long as they can use it to hurt all the people who aren’t like them. VOTE in every election unless you want these fascists to win.

  28. And I’m just sitting here remembering how I was called unhinged for saying the exact same thing back in 2016. The rhetoric was slightly more veiled but the signs were all there for anyone willing to look at things honestly and with open eyes.

  29. We’re entering the part where we argue with them about what democracy is.

  30. If you describe fascism without saying the word they really will go: Oh, hell yeah, based!

  31. But to them, it’s about religion. Their goal is to convert America into a repressive theocratic dictatorship.
