This American life just did a podcast about this. Good stuff.
After watching her cringey, fear-mongering campaign ads in 2022, and subsequently seeing her bomb in the election itself, I was absolutely sure she would make a top notch party chair.
Just say you won, refuse to step down, tell people to go fk themselves. Trump’s legacy to the Republican Party.
Highlights:
>Karamo, a staunch Donald Trump supporter and 2020 election conspiracy theorist, has been accused of not moving the party forward during this critical time heading into the 2024 elections, as well as failing to improve the reported $500,000 debt the Michigan GOP is in.
>It is unclear if the party has enough members to vote on removing Karamo from her position. Karamo has accused the meeting of not being called in accordance with party bylaws, and has indicated she will not recognize the results of any votes.
>”You were chosen as chairwoman because the majority of the Republican delegates strongly respected your commitment to a new era of transparency, honesty and meaningful involvement on the part of the State Committee,” the letter said.
>”Regrettably, these policies no longer seem to be a priority in your administration and the Party’s financial stability is quickly deteriorating.”
>”When the chairperson of the Michigan Republican Party tells those that don’t agree with her that they can go pound sand, the party’s losing voters.”
>Michigan Republican Party delegates elected Karamo chairwoman last February after she unsuccessfully ran for secretary of state in 2022.
In general I don’t have an issue with the GOP flailing
But in other mature democracies people keen on politics and government after being rejected from a party like the GOP would just setup a new party to better reflect their own beliefs – and the old party would lose, either change to be more competitive or just die.
Having only one functional party is an awful situation for everyone – even the Democrats who will become complacent, poorly responsive and corrupt.
The American political situation is just nuts
Felt really good to shut these fools down in the voting booth last election.
“… and this is bad news for Biden.”
Oh no! Anyway.
MAGAS vote for people like they are “electing” new “characters” for the WWE, or whatever cheesy wrestling promotion is currently financially solvent.
They brought it on themselves. It may happen in real time like it is in Michigan, or it might be slower and more frustrating in other states, but it’s inevitable
It warms my heart to see the GOP destroying itself, good riddance.
The conflict in Michigan is just the start, and will spread across the whole party. I’ll give the GOP credit, they were able to stay afloat with Trump at the helm a lot longer than I imagined, but this was always the final stop on the Trump train.
This American Life had a great episode about the MI GOP just a couple of weeks ago.
The situation MI GOP seems to be a cautionary tale about what can happen when you let ideological purity be the only requirement over any relevant skill set or experience.
MI GOP got destroyed in the 2022 midterms, mostly due to all the candidates being strong election deniers. Now, a reasonable person might see this and decide to change your position or at least stop talking about election stealing. However, the MI GOP decided to lean into it and the fringe election deniers actually managed to unseat all the ‘establishment’ GOP. The new chair has no real political experience and especially no experience with fundraising. Now they are running out of money because they have lost a ton of big donors and they really don’t have the skill set to bring in anywhere close to the amount needed.
IMHO, it also really seems like the chair is lying about their finances to stay in power.
This is why I think Trump will lose the general. The Republican Party at the state level is in an absolutely desperate position. Michigan and Arizona are broke. Strong chance that Nevada is on its way as well with the fake elector lawsuit.
State parties are extremely important in organizing volunteers, getting out the vote, and advertising as they get it at a discounted rate. Being broke will make it all but impossible for trump to have a coherent ground game in key states. Under reported story when talking about the 2024 general election
How can we help? Help them implode faster that is
**The GOP …**
They are not the Grand Old Party anymore. In fact, they never were.
> Karamo said the meeting has not been called in accordance with party bylaws, adding it has “have zero legal authority”
Well, that sounds like winner talk! 😄
If they’ve got you dead to rights, argue technicalities.
**… imploding in Michigan**
They have come a long way from occupying the statehouse with weapons and plotting to kidnap the governor.
Special meeting on Jan 6th, huh? Fitting. Eat Sh!t GOP
Sounds like the GOP is having a few problems in Florida currently, too. Must be a bit of a pattern for this chaos and other disarray.

Darn-oh, well
It’s Newsweek. I’m inclined to think this is just a “silver lining” article.
Does this mean that Biden has a chance at winning Michigan? I’ve already written it off on my mind. But does this state level republicans organization have an effect on the election itself?
Anyone who cares about the future of our democracy should be alarmed by Trump’s behavior. It’s not just about politics, it’s about protecting our core values.
As a resident of MI, all I can say is “Burn, GOP. Dishonesty and betrayal have consequences.”

Can we ban Newsweek posts already?
