Canada promised to deliver a $400M air defence system to Ukraine a year ago. It still hasn’t arrived.

  1. No worries, Germany will provide another Iris T system soon, but If you want to help out, do you have ATACMS that would make up for us not delivering Taurus? Would mean the world to use 😉

  2. TLDR: Waiting on the US to deliver as Canada procured it through them.

  3. David Pugliese is a fussy little weiner boy with an axe to grind against the Canadian military and defense department.

  4. It’s been well known that a lot by of things especially high tech stuff would be taking time to be delivered because they had to be built as new production.

  5. Canada purchased a $400 air defense system that has yet to arrive. Are you trying to divide the Allies?

  6. This is a non-story. Canada has bankrolled a system. Its in the manufacturing queue at Kongsberg/Raytheon. The last I read was that they were anticipating delivering all outstanding ordered systems to Ukraine in 2024. NASAMS was in very low production rate prior to the Feb 2022. Sadly spinning up an increased production rate is itself challenging. Essentially NASAMS was a custom to build item: someone orders a system or two and they commence work on it. Its production was not akin to say an automobile manufacturing facility.

Separately Canada has already delivered missiles which this and other SAM systems can employ, and it is also bankrolling some production of SAM missiles in the UK for UK manufactured systems.

America tried to convince some countries that had NASAMS systems to donate them, or had ordered systems which had current contract delivery dates to allow the dates to slip in preference to the systems for Ukraine. Want to guess how many takers there were?

Pugliese knows all of this. So I am thinking he had to write an article to fulfill a quota, or has an axe to grind of some sort.

Some of the comments I read are just pure outright hate. It is fine not to be a supporter of the current govt. But don’t let your hate cloud the facts. This liberal govt is not the architect of the state of CAF. That has decades behind it from all past governments. Conveniently forgotten is the fact that the lowest level ever of defense spending in the last 60 yrs on a % GDP basis was under a Conservative govt – in fact it fell to below 1% at its lowest under that govt. The hole that CAF has to climb out of is going to take yrs and many more dollars, even with the current govt having doubled+ defense spending since taking power. The bigger question in respect of that matter is how much will the public tolerate as a budget for defense. There are a lot of people in all political persuasions who cannot see past the end of their nose – it is not confined to one party or another. And I for one am extremely skeptical that a govt under PP would change anything dramatically or positively for CAF. Especially given the recent voting record of the Conservatives in respect of support for Ukraine.

  7. Lol canada doesn’t even have any air defense capability at all

  8. We (Canada) *ordered* the NASAMS system for Ukraine. That there is a war going on doesn’t mean our order goes to the front of the line. It’ll be sent as soon as it’s built.
