I was watching a video when I came across these incredible stats of Raphinha, the guy in the video (Robby Lou) has portrayed well what quite a few Barca fans have come to think about Raphinha.. and I will say I am one of them fans.

Robby Lou says how we have come to expect ‘good football’ from Raphinda just like most other wingers (Dembele, Neymar, Saka, Doku, etc.) (not Antony).

Raphinha, despite being predictable in his moves has managed to put up good numbers in terms of goals and assists. A part of it is credited to better positioning (also, Raphinha is better at pressing and defending).

Another interesting point that has been covered in the video is that Raphinha’s impact in a game would increase if he is placed along with other lethal forwards in the team like Vitor Roque and Ferran Torres..

P.S. I don’t watch a lot of football apart from Barca, so take this opinion with a pinch of salt.

  1. Lethal like Ferran? Jokes aside the analysis might have point but I feel it’s just that all our attackers are in bad form. It doesn’t help that most teams play low block. Hopefully with new year they start to net in more of their chances.

  2. Raphinha should play as a CAM in a 442 or 433, he would be lethal

    also giving Lamine chance to start, Xavi should make him crash the box a lot instead of spamming crosses and play on the line

  3. He only has 9 G+A tho. Which means that he hasn’t even completed the equivalent to 10 matches. Most places wouldn’t even consider his numbers with so little minutes played, as a low sample size easily skews data and that is likely the case here.

    At the very least you should also look at where he got the goals and assists, as in against which opponents, and at what stage of the match. With 17 games played but less than a full 9 matches in minutes his situation is very clearly unusual. If he really was that good you’d think he would be starting more, after all.

  4. I’ve probably defended Raph more than most people here (*and also criticized him, but who hasn’t lol*). He is still my #1 choice of RW, but… he is not better than what Dembouz was for us before leaving. Dembele was a one-man wrecking show, while Raphinha needs lots of support around him to be threatening. So we commit more in attack on the right side. That may also partly be why we are not so good defensively this season.

    I know that’s not the point of this post, but this is just to show that stats aren’t everything.
