Hello all, I’m about to write my theory exam for driving and stumbled upon this question.
I don’t really understand why is motorcycle not allowed to go first.
I’m confused here –
1. I understood police is only controlling my way to stop)
2. no right of way to motorcycle?
3. even if it’s blocked to me as indicated by the traffic policeman, shouldn’t both the vehicles have equal priority?

Can someone provide an explanation what really is correct here?

  1. You are last because of the police man as you said, and the red car goes before the motorcycle because it’s driving straight while the motorcycle is making a left turn. So because of that no, they don’t have equal priority.

  2. 1. correct
    2. false, it has right of way but see 3
    3. Participants making a turn (motorcycle) must give way to vehicles driving straight ahead (car). After the car has passed the motorcycle can take the turn. You must wait until the policeman gives you right of way.

  3. In Germany it generally goes:

    Police > stoplights > signs > hightened curbs > right-before-left.

With basically no exceptions. If there is someone controlling traffic, that’s top priority, overwriting all the others, and so on.

That’s not just in this interaction, that’s just a general rule.

  4. There is a German saying: Siehst du Brust oder Rücken, musst du auf die Bremse drücken. Siehst du die Seite, suchst du das weite / If you see your chest or back, you have to hit the brakes. If you see the side, you look far away

  5. There are “levels”, so to speak, of priority regulations at junctions. The top step is always above the others, regardless of whether the others are “present”.
A policeman is at the top and overrides all signs and rules. This is followed by the traffic lights, then the traffic signs, then the basic rule “right before left”.
In this case, you have to wait because the police officer is letting cross traffic pass. The car on the left wants to go straight ahead and is therefore allowed to go first, as a left-turner must always pay attention to oncoming traffic, unless otherwise regulated.

  6. One thing to keep in mind when driving in Germany, if you’re a “links abbieger”, you are the most damned creature in the planet. Unless you’re turning left on a main street then you have the most sought-after position in the world.

  7. First goes the car because the motorcycle needs to give way. Then goes the motorcycle and then you.

  8. you are last, policeman does the signaling and you have to stop. and red car goes First, motorcycle is turning left. besides that good luck, if you fail its nothing to be ashamed of, most people dont pass theory in their first try current theory test is crap. and thats coming from someone that has Abitur so no i am not shit at tests normally, but even i failed once. my friends all except one also failed at least once.

  9. You have to wait because of the police guy. He overrules every sign, traffic light and right before left rule. He needs to stand parallel towards your road with his arms for you to be allowed to drive.
