>Roe’s demise has transformed the judiciary into a kind of death panel that holds the power to elevate the potential life of a fetus over the actual life of a patient.
Cruelty is the point.
If everyone that wanted abortion to be available pooled their money we could easily buy the judges we need.
> The decision was authored by Kurt Engelhardt, a Trump appointee, and joined by Cory Wilson (another Trump pick) and Leslie Southwick (a George W. Bush appointee). **Engelhardt asserted that EMTALA “does not govern the practice of medicine,” which is “historically subject to police power of the states,” not the federal government.** Instead, he wrote, the law merely bars hospitals from “dumping” poor patients who need emergency treatment.
But I guess it does grant that power to random judges who know zero about the human body. 🤷♂️
If the GOP gets the trifecta this is what awaits us nation wide. Forget about all the states right drivel from the GOP
Abortion is going to destroy the GOP this year.
“…it permits emergency abortions only when a patient is “at risk of death” or “substantial impairment of a major bodily function.” No, this is a false statement. The woman in TX that had to go to PA for a life-saving abortion needed an abortion to save her ability to have more children. TX ignored this prognosis, instead forcing this woman to flee her fascist state to get the treatment needed.
In reality, no one in TX can get a “legal” abortion.
Worst part is you can’t even in good conscience say well fuck em pull funding cause it only hurts the poor not the people in favor of draconian human rights violations
How many steps until women aren’t allowed to leave some states borders? Figure they already want to prosecute women who travel for abortions so it seems like the next logical step is to just lock that down completely after all any woman might potentially be pregnant. I get why dudes are into this, excuse me why certain very sad dudes might be into this but I don’t get the women drinking the kool aid on this crap.
“Texas may prohibit hospitals from providing “stabilizing treatment” to pregnant patients by performing an abortion—withholding the procedure until their condition deteriorates to the point of grievous injury or near-certain death. ”
These asshole pro-life extremists are despicably subhuman.
Gilead ahead.
From the article:
“…withholding the procedure until their condition deteriorates to the point of grievous injury or near-certain death. The ruling proves what we already know: Roe’s demise has transformed the judiciary into a kind of *death panel* that holds the power to elevate the potential life of a fetus over the actual life of a patient.” (Italics added)
The absolute fucking irony of the right claiming Obamacare would set up death panels to this; people recognizing that the right has effectively set up actual death panels.
If only the right recognized irony when it slaps them in the face.
Fuck this country
Complying with Texas law regarding abortions (i.e. putting women at risk of extreme harm and even death) seems to violate the AMA principles of medical ethics:
“A physician shall, while caring for a patient, regard responsibility to the patient as paramount.”
The thing that gets me is they have no interest in helping families after the children are born. Childcare subsidies, national health insurance for young mothers and children, free school lunches, etc… are all hard no’s for the pro life crowd. Hell even the things that are proven to reduce abortions like birth control and sex education are hard no’s for them. It’s almost like they don’t really care about children and young mothers.
Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic:
South Park should do a re-re-re-release of the Christopher Reeves episode where he sucks down fetuses for their stem cells and replace it with Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sucking down fetuses just to retain his raw power.
It’s easier to get a gun and kill somebody over getting an abortion now
This is horrible. They actually want to both the mother and fetus to die before getting help? How much longer before Texas starts charging women for leaving the state to get an abortion?
Boy remember when we were told everyone comparing these people to Handmaid’s Tale was just us being dramatic and extremist?
I’m starting to wonder if these jackasses aren’t lizards in disguise, with how often they do the whole “accusation = confession” shit.
1995 I had a miscarriage for a baby I passionately wanted.
It was a partial miscarriage = the sack was gone making the pregnancy non viable, but the fetus remained intact for the time being – with a heartbeat.
I was devastated. Totally heartbroken. Incapable of self-advocacy. The doctors gently and compassionately advised me to come back 4 days later. They’d quietly set up a D&C appointment, in case the uterus hadn’t shed the embryo by that time.
The following Tuesday I turned up for the appointment. The embryo was still attached, and it was at the point where sepsis was likely to incur. So they recommended the D&C. I went along with their recommendation, eternally grateful they gave guidance.
The D&C was completed. The doctor checked in with me, mentioning that sepsis had in fact started but they caught it early enough that my fertility should still be intact.
18 months later I was pregnant again. My kid is now an adult. These days I often look at her and and as a Texas resident I think “had the 1995 incident happened now my child would likely never had been born”. And perhaps I would have died too.
These “conservatives” are anything but pro-life. They are murderers of mothers that want a baby. They make women that miscarry infertile. They prevent future, wanted, planned for babies being born. They destroy lives.
Out of principle I hate no one. But it takes serious work on my part to not hate these people. They could have caused my wonderful kid to never have been born, and they are causing many kids to never be born.
I don’t understand this part:
>Yet the court unanimously decreed that, until her symptoms grew considerably more dire, Cox was legally obligated to continue the failing pregnancy.
Where is the line drawn to decide what would be considered dire? It isn’t like we all have health meters over our heads that people can use as a gauge to assess how close we are to Death’s Door.
Women of reproductive age need to get out of texas NOW. Find some way to do it. This is insanity.
We are just going to have to fight back. Procecute men for ejaculating without producing a viable baby. Killing all those potential babies. How could they! /s
It’s no wonder so many of the current generation don’t want to have kids.
This SC is perhaps the most tainted and overreaching judiciary in America’s long history. Its dismissal of Roe is backfiring with fatal consequences, all of which the partisan zealots sought to avoid.
Conservatives railed against Universal Health Care by proclaiming that judicial death panels would result. And what do we have now? Judicial death panels that place life-affirming, life and death medical decisions squarely in the hands of those least qualified to make them.
America’s healthcare system is broken enough without the interference of these nitwits.
Let’s logic this out: save the unborn life by withholding life saving treatments from the mother. Both die? Baby without a mother?
