4. The west can’t ignore russian threats anymore. Putin has been in the open about his ambitions since 2007, and we conveniently choose to ignore it. “It’s just rhetoric.”, “He won’t do anything bad, after all we’ve got trade agreements” etc…

   Good faith in a malicious actor respecting rules and treaties, as well as trade agreements have never stopped a war – rather, they have been fundamental ingredients in the making of the most destructive war of the 20th century. There is absolutely no reason to believe that things will be different this time.

   The west can’t fight the coming conflict with its kettles on the back burner. Keep in mind, it took the combined resources and industrial might of almost the entire developed world to put down Nazi Germany.

   Hitler only attacked because he perceived his opponents as weak. Putin works in the same way.
