  1. > Ministers have repeatedly claimed developing the huge oilfield off Shetland will improve UK energy security and help UK consumers, overriding concerns from climate experts and their own advisers.

    > In a written answer to a parliamentary question, however, the government appears to accept that the private companies extracting the oil will sell the vast majority internationally, saying: “It is not desirable to force private companies to ‘allocate’ oil and gas produced in the North Sea for domestic use”.

  2. Heard from a lot of unionist redditors that this would be a big positive to our energy security. Either they’re fucking stupid to believe anything the tories say, or they’re deliberately trying to deceive people.

    Which is it?

  3. A deliberate lie from the tories, no surprise there. Cancel the licences.

  4. So all those raising concerns about this were absolutely right? Whooodathunkit.

  5. Ah, now where are the -100 club members now?! The Unionists are awfully quiet and not out defending the lying Tories.

  6. And yet the media recycled the line again and again until it sounded true despite being utter tosh.

  7. This seems to involve a debunking of something that no one ever claimed.

No one ever stated that the oil would be kept in the UK or that exporting will be banned.
