Not sure if I’m misremembering but I think technically this is seen as non-consensual in the eyes of the law, due to him being a prisoner and her being a prison worker, or maybe it only applies to prison wardens.

I worked on a recruitment portal for a prison once which involved many complex forms to fill and several assessments and hoops to get around to before the face to face interviews. I suggested that maybe they won’t get many interested candidates if the initial process is so cumbersome. But the guy explained that they will get a deluge of applications and all of that process was needed to weed out candidates who just wanted the job to be closer to murderers and rapists.
He was right.. every job got thousands of applicants. It was a heck of a process to weed out non serious applicants and they had devised these really confusing questions designed to extract information out that would suggest the real reason for applying.
What is the benefit of women guards in male prison and vice versa? Seriously, its totally dumb.
Theyre weaker than almost all the inmates in a 1-1 fight, they are going to receieve some abuse and sexual harrassment and finally, in some cases, theyll end up having romantic (by definition non-consensual) sex with the men. These men have NOTHING to lose by trying it on and for many a women guard is the only shot at sex they will have for decades.
Id say the same for men in a womens prison. What benefit is there?
Male guards for male prisoners and the same for womens. Its just common sense.

I have a friend who worked in the prison service about 3 or 4 years ago for over a decade. They told me back then that they had to have yearly training about staying safe, self defence etc but also what to do if a prisoner tries to befriend you in any way. Many prisoners are expert in manipulation and they were taught to give nothing away in conversation, be boundaried at all times as any wife of an insecurity or personal information puts you at risk. I can’t imagine working in an atmosphere like that.
How does someone get to spend time alone with a prisoner ? Surely workers should always be doubled but maybe I am being nieve.
