  1. But higher taxes are destroying this country and making everyone leave to go south of the border /s

  2. I mean given England’s +700k last year immigration level it would be troubling if there was a net negative figure.

  3. I think it’s averaging 20k plus annually since 2000

So we are not going to be swamped anytime soon.

In fact to match English immigration levels we would need 60k last year.

  4. I was born and grew up in England, moving around a few times for my Dad’s job.

I moved up here with my girlfriend just over a year ago.

I was shocked to find out how many people I knew had already moved up here.

  5. Gotta love the Nat’s selective reporting.

    > The latest figures from National Records Scotland (NRS) show that since 2010, Scotland’s annual net migration from the rest of the UK increased from 2909 to 8914.

By some coincidence 2010-11 is the lowest net UK migration on record (since 2001-02). Had they chosen, say, 2003-04 then net UK migration is *down* from 15,500. Looking at trends net migration has been steady at around 9000 since 2012-13. No real change

BTW ScotGov hasn’t published data for 2021-22 which was due in July last year. The *latest figures* are currently two years out of date. Any attempt to make this about the SNP’s recent economic policy is complete lies.

    > In 2021, inflow from the rest of the UK was 14,400 higher (+34%) than the previous year.

Meaningless. The outflow was also 14,500 (44%) higher.

    > Scotland’s 2022 census also recorded the highest ever Scottish population, 5,436,600, as a direct result of inward migration. Census data showed that without migration the population would have decreased by about 49,800 since 2011.

Population growth is slowing, however. The 2022 population is only up 2.7% since 2011. The 2011 population was up 4.6% on the ten years previous. The 2022 growth in Scotland is about half of the England and Wales (6.1%) and NI (5.1%) growth data.

This is all small fry compared to the real issue; the ageing population. The over 65s have grown 22% since 2011 to over 1 million.
