  1. He’s gone from budding 6th former to crack addict. Damn it’s been hard for him.

  2. I had to check it wasn’t April 1st.

I’m as pro independence as they come but the national really is the absolute worst. Britnats have tons of choice, I wish there was more pro independence media, its shocking that half the country’s views aren’t represented.

  3. Big fan of Owen Jones.

It’s refreshing to see someone in the mainstream who is pro trans to the degree that he is.

  4. This the same Owen Jones who blamed remain voters for the diabolic Brexit deal that Johnson forced through to appease the swivel eyed loonies in the Tory ranks?

Or the same Owen Jones who thinks a man who beat up his girlfriend is an appropriate source for discussing mental health amongst men?

    Surely not.

  5. There are few spineless wimpy middle class london Marxists that I dislike more than Owen Jones. I hope his mum knows he is working with the scotch nationalists.

Now go look up all the things he has written about Scotland in last 20years.

  6. I find him tedious especially his support for Corbyn, although he at least criticised him – so not sure how he’ll fit in at the National if he dares criticise the SNP.

  7. I like Owen Jones, call him an elitist middle class wank all you like, but he definitely does educate and agitate. From what I recall about a year ago though he was against independence for ‘logistical’ reasons though he agreed with it in theory. Definitely don’t agree with that one, Owen! But I like him otherwise.

  8. Did the Guardian sack him? He must have taken a massive pay cut like

  9. Well this is the Fabrizio Ravanelli joining Dundee of our times.

  10. The National is just the left-wing version of the Sun.

I’m pro independence, but people on this sub who use The National articles to try and promote independence just come off equally as stupid and gullible as those who use Sun articles to make points against independence.

  11. I’ve never bought a copy of The National but I for one am really angry about this for some reason.

  12. SLab posters pretending not to be raging at this is class.

  13. A joke of a paper hiring a joke of a political pundit and tankie, nothing out of the ordinary here

  14. This would be a genius move if the people buying this comic book had any inclination of voting Labour. As it is, they’re just flushing money down the tubes and hastening their own demise. Love to see it.

  15. Comments looks like a lost of folk to block from your life to enjoy it more.

  16. I’m normally a fan of Owen Jones, so this is disappointing.

  17. I would rather do handstands in pig shit that read anything he has written

  18. Oh boy I bet this thread and any other reddit threads about this will be just a real good rational fun time

  19. He must be really struggling on Twitter these days without being able to block anyone who points out any inaccuracies in his articles.

  20. Does this mean he’s no longer with (or contributing to) the Guardian?

  21. Am basically diametrically opposed to Owen Jones on many issues but I like how he makes his point and find him engaging.

Funnily enough he knocked on my door for a guardian interview during the referendum. Decent guy even if politically we aren’t always aligned. Fundamentally we agree that we want the best for the country and people to be happy and free to be themselves. We found consensus…Needless to say it wasn’t included in the paper

  22. I’ve just been talking about this on another social media app and the person claimed that The National hated English people because “it’s in the name” and now that they’ve hired him they should change their name to International.

That aside sometimes I agree with Owen and sometimes I don’t, so good luck to him on this.

  23. The guy isn’t a journalist so it’s only fitting that he becomes employed by an SNP fanzine.

  24. One of the very few decent people working within uk journalism, an actual voice of reason and constantly demonised for it

  25. I don’t see why it’s surprising. He vocally supported Scottish independence.

  26. I like Owen, but did he just put the name of every publication in the country on a dartboard or something
