A Ukrainian military doctor has become engaged to a soldier she served with a day after she was released from nearly two years of captivity in Russia, their commander said on Thursday.

The pair were reunited when the warring nations exchanged more than 200 soldiers each on Wednesday.

Social media footage showed Galyna Fedychyn kissing her fiance, Mykola Gritsenyak, after he proposed to her, ring and huge bouquet of red roses in hand.

“This love has survived trials that can break the strongest,” said Sergiy Volynsky, the commander of Ukraine’s 36th Separate Marine Brigade, who posted the video online.

“They fought together in the battle for Mariupol, endured the ordeal of captivity and a long separation, but their hearts never stopped beating in unison,” he added.

  2. They’re so young. Hope she was treated with some human dignity. Scary to think, freaking Orcs.

  3. Beautiful couple, I hope they have many happy years together.

  4. I hope they one day get to honeymoon on a beach in Crimea while Russia burns to the ground.

  5. Lucky Guy!

After being in prison there are a multitude of psychological scars that have to be treated. I would try to stay out of a combat role if possible.

It takes time and treatment, but the PTSD and nightmares stay with you forever.

    SLAVA UKRAINE!

  6. What a wonderful looking couple. God Bless them, Protect them, and help them be prosperous as they go on a new journey together in Life, Amen. MUCH Happiness to them.

  7. I wish them a lifetime of happiness. Love conquers all, even Ruzzian tyranny. Glory to Ukraine.
