Wow, this is amazing. It was crazy just how hellish war was back then. No doubt it’s still terrible but modern soldiers don’t have to experience the living conditions of WW1 which killed probably just as much soldiers as combat did.
That second to last photo, with the Italian soldier with the gas mask, is like something directly out of a horror movie.
I’d have serious chills and shivers watching a horror movie ultra-villain like that stalking down his enemies one at a time.
I got that skin for the Saint-Chamond in BF1 lol
#8 is crazy
Much of the British trenches were dug by Chinese laborers but they rarely appear in any images
The level to which colorization technology has gotten in recent years is pretty astounding
Damn ive never seen a sniper like the one on nr8! Crazy
A simpler time
Monsieur Napoleon has done it again! Thank you kindly for the incredible photos(:
Picture #4 could be straight from Ukraine today… soldier in a trench with a Maxim gun. Could even be the same gun!
It’s so surreal to look at. It’s like this imaginary time where horrific machines of war were created through a process of throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what stuck. Looking at these photos in color really make it real. That photo of the St. Chamond is the peak of uncanny, because when you look at one of those things you can’t imagine it would ever work, let alone be that colorful.

The snazziest war by a wide margin
