  3. Hundreds of planes land here every day for hundreds of reasons, most of which relate to range/refueling.

    Jimmy Saville had a mobile home in Enniscorthy and Gary Glitter used to drink in Fagans in Drumcondra*, it means feck all. Ireland wasn’t short of our own home grown pedos (usually dressed in black).

    *These two pieces of info are totally made up to make a point.

  4. Not really a mystery, the plane seems to have been a Boeing 727 which has just about enough range to get from the eastern coast of North America to Ireland and not much further.

    Lots of jets have traditionally used Ireland as a refueling stop and it’s an ideal meeting place for people travelling from the continental mainland and North America to meet up. It’s one of the main reasons we have had such a striving air travel industry.

    Add on that Ireland hosted a lot of stops on the calendar of wealthy English speakers in particular during the boom and still does host a reasonable amount of them it’s pretty reasonable to have a lot of stops here without it incriminating, or even really involving, anyone within the State.
