  1. Hi, working on this map, trying to make sure as the page on wikipedia does not make it clear.

Do you see these automat vending machines on the streets that sell cigarettes like in Germany?

  2. Never seen one. Though I don’t smoke, so I don’t pay attention to it

  3. There used to be but it’s a long time since they are forbidden by law I think.

  4. Never saw those. There are machines to buy soups and breads though, which I like better.

  5. Thzy used to be in all bars. Doesnt feel that long ago to me :s

  6. I know one machine. It is hidden away and next to a beer vending machine. Probably not legal tho. But some bars still have it tho,but require a special “age 16” coin.

  7. Have seen a few in Ghent, think there are still some in bars, dunno if they still work

  8. Only until a decade ago you’d see them in every pub, cinema, supermarket, etc…

  9. There used to be vending machines in Bars and shops, yet now they are banned virtually everywhere. They used to work with regulat money, later with tokens. But since there was an age-limit when you wan start buying cigarettes, they banned them everywhere because pubs were a bit a problem with checking age.

So now the only place authorised to sell cigarettes are nightshops, gasstations, “bigger” groceryshops and tobaccoshops obviously

I might have some details wrong, but the general idea is right

  10. Pretty neat geographically how we end up with that vertical axis of neighbouring countries.

  11. Interesting (and spurious) historical correlation between these countries that still sell cigarettes in machines and some stuff that went down last century. Just sayin’

  12. Nope, not anymore. Condom vending machines however? Absolutely.

  13. Not anymore.
Its not allowed, even the ones in bars are gone.
The law passed in december 2023. The only vending machines allowed are in supermarkets.

  14. In Luxembourg i saw some. Could be inactive idk. But germany has lots of them.

  15. Haven’t seen a cigarette vending machine since like 2008 or so. And even then, you needed to get an age coin to use it.

  16. The one I used in Italy had me put in my ID for agecheck if I’m not mistaken. So you can’t just buy smokes.

  17. The law mandates that those machines need to be visible to a member of staff so that they can check for underage cigarette sales
