And the government would love nothing more than everyone blaming immigrants and not them.
Intelligent people know the housing minister is doing a good job… just ignore the stats.
Someone should do a documentary where they follow a homeless person who pretends to be a refugee and see s the difference in treatment by the Government. Wouldn’t even be that hard, just fly to Georgia and when you fly back destroy you passport and claim asylum like everyone else does.
They should be able to sue the state. People not from here can
Are we still on about this, Who cares ? A nation is an economy and nothing else. That’s what Terence MacSwiney et al died horribly for- a nice looking GDP and politically correct leaders.
Without being yelled at, why do we measure homeless people in absolute terms instead of per capita or something? Like obviously headline figures are bad but surely as population increases at a very high rate, surely this number is bound to go up and up. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Can somebody explain how are numbers were over 10k irish homeless prior to the Ukraine war now we have higher number but housed 100k people we werent expecting it really makes you think that this false crisis was infact an over night fix
FG and FF still slaying it queens.
Is this including the couch surfing homeless
It’s my understanding that this doesn’t mean there’s 13,000 sleeping on the street, most of them are in hotels etc.
Really need to give landlords more tax cuts. Eventually it will work.
They are struggling.
Why isn’t there any protests? This is insane
I see the fash trying to make their presence felt in the comments. Don’t fall for it folks!
But sure the government told us they’re meeting all their targets. It would be ludicrous to assume they’ve set stupidly low targets.
I recall Leo saying something about turning the corner on homelessness, glad to see that comment aged well.
I walk town at night. There’s hundreds of tents with multiple people in them. It’s shocking. It goes without saying more needs to be done. There should be exclusion zones for sleeping rough and begging and zones where facilities like wash and drug disposal is available.
Aside from building new properties, it would be helpful if
1) social / council housing wasn’t sold to tenants – it’s a public asset and should remain council housing
2) if housing is under utilised, then reallocate it. If granny is living in a 3 bed alone and Siobhan and her three kids are in a hotel homeless, then granny needs to be moved to a 1 bed and Siobhan and family can be housed.
3) vacant social housing needs to be returned into housing quicker. There’s two two-beds in my estate, one vacant 9 months and the other vacant 5 months. It took 4 years to get rid of the tenants (drug dealing, stabbings, fighting you name it… and yes, they were ‘native’) but they should have been ‘refreshed’ and reallocated months ago.

We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of options
