Finally! I’ve read about the dubious activity that goes on in those weird American-style candy shops, but I still don’t understand how they managed to set so many of them up

  1. It says it’ll significantly reduce traffic, but how? It says there’ll be more cycle parking and wider pavements but that doesn’t mean less traffic really

  2. Playing spot the difference with the artists impression images and it just looks like a few more trees. I don’t know the going price for a few trees, but I’m thinking there’s a fair chunk of change from £90m.

As for pedestrianising it, other boroughs shut off roads by plonking down trees in planters, so again not mega bucks.

  3. I dont understand how slapping down new pavements costs £100m????

  4. That’s an awful lot of money to spend on not actually pedestrianising the damn place.

Also seems immensely stupid to begin what will presumably be disruptive works in the autumn, which is tipping into the peak trading season for the stores there.

  5. Here we go again, tip-toeing around what actually needs to be done
