Hi folks
So yesterday I got a ticket from Ulm to Dresden and today it got cancelled. DB app told me to pick an alternative so I did.
In the second train, from Darmstadt I took
EN 40459/EC 459
Ticket guy checked my ticket out and said I didn’t have any for Darmstadt to Dresden. I paid 109 euros
Can someone explain to me wtf just happened?

Okay, German geography is admittedly not my strongest subject, but it does look to me that Darmstadt is out of the way when you are trying to go from Ulm to Dresden.
When the fixed-train connection requirement is removed, you are still required to take a comparable alternative; you can’t go the long way to your destination.
Was that detour the only available connection at the time of your travel? If yes, go to a travel centre and discuss this with them. Seeing the timetables from that time should clear it up.
Was it the DB by the way? Was it DB staff that issued you the fine? I thought those are Czech or Austrian trains.
