Is anyone else being absolutely bombarded with Irish-targeted deepfake AI ads for obvious financial scams on YouTube?

I’ve reported them multiple times to YouTube for impersonation (TOS violation) and half the time they refuse to take them down. Ive also sent recordings to ASAI who have opened a file of investigation.

These are super sinister ads to me. Clearly targeting vulnerable/gullible users that wouldn’t recognise a deepfake.

This one in particular is listed under a US based advertiser. I’ve looked at some of the other deepfakes and the advertisers have literally 10s of 1000s of ads listed on the platform.

YouTube is such a sess pit!

  1. Not bombarded with… But yea I’ve seen quite a few over the last year all right.

I’m not trying to be mean or anything here…But have you been under a rock or something?

Deepfake ads and videos have been pretty common for the last while. Youtube is probably far from the worst platform with them either.

If anything, take solace that this means you’ve probably tightened up on your shared data and directed advertising information a lot.

The advertisement algorithm is having trouble linking you to something relevant so it’s just throwing the junk at you because somebody paid for it so why not.

  2. I’ve given up reporting ads to Google/YouTube, they’re completely useless, there should be an independent appeal on their decisions. I get the impression that there’s some poor soul working on a shitty contract just pressing yes or no all day and not really giving a shit. These ads are dangerous, there are plenty of people tech-savvy enough to use youtube but not enough to understand deep fakes.

  3. I reported this too and got a generic ‘it’s not getting taken down’ reply too. Come on like, it’s Anne Doyle being impersonated to profit some scumbag on the Internet. She did NOT want this.

Relatedly I have reported Hero Wars ads constantly for not being represented gameplay, and also just seedy as fuck. Because they are based in Cyprus the ASAI have a hard time getting anything done.

  4. Herself and McGregor. Though at least “mcgregor legal trouble” is believable.

  5. these ads ripping off celebrities have been around since 2010. obviously the AI videos are new, but old fake blogs (flogs) were around

you can only fix them at the ad level. youtube/google were good at stopping them back 10 years but now they’re letting loads through. I know the advertisers are great at getting around blocks but google was always up to the challenge. the company really seems to be decaying

  6. Someone I was really surprised at fell for something like this recently and was showing it to me to see if I would be interested? I was shocked they were falling for it but it obviously works.

  7. I don’t remember last time I’ve seen an ad. Ublock / revanced is the way.

  8. She has 2 sets of lips at sometimes but it’s a good imitation of her voice if not her manner.

  9. Irs scary because a lot of older or elderly peoples, haven’t got a clue what a deepfake is

  10. Who’s yer wan ?
Surely you can send it to her and surely she will try and take action on it in a more serious way.

  11. Oh yes, there are banner ads on instagram too. Why is it always Anne Doyle?

  12. Nah, I’ve just been getting ads on this game thats “totally not fake” with some dullard hired off done deal to act as terrible as possible.

  13. Remember when ads on the Internet used to be free screensavers with a virus? I miss those days

  14. Having worked in the industry believe it or not the big Ad companies are losing more money than they’re making with this shite. If everyone played by the rules and didn’t break policy there’d be far higher ad spend across platforms. Meta’s model suspends about 60% of newly created accounts by bots before they even start spending. Then you’ve got players like Proctor & Gamble that move millions in ad spend because of an overflagging issue on some campaign they can’t fix.

  15. I keep getting ads from el-on musk who wants me to get rich by investing in his AI. YouTube said it doesn’t violate any of their policies

  16. It never ceases to amaze me how absolutely, incredibly terrible Facebook is from a customer service perspective. I say this because they are one of the giants of social media. Two of my cousins accounts were clearly hacked and they were posting clickbait articles with dodgy links multiple times a day. I reported and reported and reported the posts over and over again but nothing ever happened. Ended up blocking the accounts.

Having had a business page on Facebook for a while as well, their customer service is non existent. You literally cannot contact anybody. There is no number, no email address. It’s baffling how they get away with it.

  17. Is it just me or is this very jerky footage and doesn’t sound anything like Anne Doyle? It just takes a little bit more vigilance at this stage to spot these things. However, I’ve no doubt that in the future, they will be able to replicate and impersonate people to near perfection.

  18. Write to your TD saying you’re disappointed that they promoted a crypto product that scammed you.

  19. Just an update if anyone cares. YouTube came back to me and said they see no TOS violation and are keeping it up.

    Absolutely disgraceful carry on

  20. It’s no coincidence these promoted scams are popping up after YouTube’s new CEO went out of his way to crack down on adblockers.

  21. I think this is one area where serious legal action needs to be taken against the publishers. They just do not care. They make huge money out of micro-targeted ads, yet they won’t take any responsibility for their content. The legal system is there to address some of those kinds imbalances.

  22. I always said I’d never pay for YouTube, but premium is 100% worth it. I pay €18 a month and five different accounts have access. Zero ads, YouTube bliss.
