surely then they’ll be scrapping covid passports for entry into certain venues?
Didn’t Boris just announce he wants all key workers testing daily from Monday ?
It will definitely result in less people getting tested. It doesn’t state how much they cost, but buying the tests every time you get a cough or a sniffle won’t be in everyone’s budget, especially given the rapidly rising costs of, well, everything.
All part of the strategy to declare the end of the pandemic…..by stopping testing for Covid!
Of course people will still be infected, unwell and dying but if there is no testing its not happening…..right?
This is stupid from the Government because it’s one of the few, along with the quick procurement and rollout of the vaccine, things that have been a success for them in this pandemic.
They were free, you could order 1 pack of a 7 a day, usually next day delivery, the site to order them was easy to use and it was easy to register the result.
When Covid isn’t a problem then this makes sense. We don’t have continual testing for other diseases. That isn’t true today, but once Omicron has passed through the population and this wave dies down, it might well be.
Dropping testing (and obviously isolation, if there is no testing) for asymptomatic people makes sense eventually, when the threat has receded to endemic levels. Which will hopefully be the case by spring.
Isn’t this dangerous? If too many workers die, who’d pay taxes?
Cue people stockpiling in the coming weeks then, just as supplier problems are supposedly resolved.
Can’t really see the angle here.
Stop people testing as often so we get the asymptomatic back in work ? Well now you’ve infected more people who have to have time off.
Try to push people towards getting vaccinated? May work, but just as likely to push fakery or antivax mindset into overdrive.
Lining their pockets? Could be, but with the “Tory corruption” cut through your more likely to promote the virus then test usage.
Legitimately cant afford it anymore? Possible, but incredibly humiliating and shows we can’t even ensure the public health is kept.
I respect that they’ll have to dial it back eventually, but it feels a bit too early now frankly.
Funny how this is also happening at a time when key workers are expected to be testing daily
Why is everybody suddenly so confident that covid is over, when Omicron has demonstrated that it still has further potential? Letting it rip through the population without a care is utterly thoughtless
They literally said use an LFT before you go out the other week
How many other test for viruses or diseases do we pay for?? It’s the NHS! We are paying for these in taxes
My dad works at a private school. They give him more lft then he could possibly need to keep the kids/staff safe they have to test nearly every day and register the lft results.
Meanwhile if I was to go visit my grandparents or family who had to shield I have to pay for piece of mind….
But surely at some point you do actually have to decide just to live with it?
Question is how is this going to work with the devolved governments? I know wales for example needs a double (might even be triple now) jab or a negative LFT.
Reckon they’ll keep providing those tests, or do you think people will just start faking it?
This seems premature. Just a few weeks ago it seemed like we were about to go into another lockdown. It seems like the government is always in a rush to completely remove all measures when things like masks and testing should really be kept until we’re sure we’re out of the woods
But doesn’t letting COVID run wild increase the risk of new, even more infectious/lethal variants evolving?
Which is good because scrapping free lateral flow tests while we’re still smack-dab in the middle of a pandemic is absolutely daft in my opinion.
Living with covid seems to mean ignore it completely?
Good the plastic waste from them is beyond disgusting.
But what about the risk of long covid? It’s basically a long-term disability isn’t it?
I’m so torn because I’m not an anti vaxxer or a conspiracy theorist or a loon, but I do think it’s now time to try and live as normally as we can with the virus, and for so many reasons – mental health, job security, quality of life. Don’t get me wrong, in also aware of the reality of the situation and how tough a call this all is. I just don’t think people can psycholically do this for much longer, and who knows what breaking point might look like? I mean, this hasn’t been a short sharp shock. We’re soon to enter year three if this thing… It’s terrifying in every way. I don’t know. Really feels like life is fundamentally different now, and we have to scrape together some sort of normalcy for the time we have left. People have lost key years – I’m in my late thirties, but even I feel like this time in my life that should almost be peak is being stomped into the ground. It’s such a difficult call…. Just can’t decide what’s for the best. Awful state of affairs
This is good. I’ve heard some people do 3-4 tests per day which is a complete waste. If people want to test heavily, it should be paid, and if you do 1-2 tests per week, it’s only gonna be a few quid per month.
Obviously at this point we’re going to be living with it forever. But how long are these restrictions realistically going to continue for? At what point do we get rid of all the restrictions and return to pre-covid times? Some people on here seem to think they should stay around indefinitely which kinda blows my mind
Nadeem Zahawi said on TV this morning there were no plan to end free lateral flow tests. So yup it’s defo going to happen.
So basically they have made enough money now so good luck and see you on the othersude
Shit, how am I going to take eighteen tests a day to get off work now?

Apparently, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
