  1. Can’t imagine the grief she must be feeling right now. RIP. Poor kid, he had a life ahead of him without financial worries but still felt things were so bad he had to end everything.

  2. Bit more info..

Was he on a hospital suicide prevention ward? On suicide watch for two previous attempts…And allowed to walk out? I may have read it wrong, but that’s appalling if true. And only 7 days after his last attempt! FFS!

“She later took to the social media platform to threaten the hospital where she said her son had been staying with a ‘lawsuit’ if ‘anything happens to my son’.

She wrote: ‘Like, how has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing???

‘Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility. Anything happens to my son on their watch? Lawsuits.

‘I want to know why Lynn Ward at Taillight Hospital who were supposed to have HCA’s supervise my child 24/7 have managed to let him out of their grasp this morning when 7 days ago he made two severe suicide attempts.’ “

  3. There is help, there are people who will listen. Here in Oz beyond blue have some amazing resources available free on-line not sure what the Irish ones are. If you’re a young one and this one hits close to home, there is good help available and it works. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

  4. Don’t think the poor kid ever had much of a chance with her as a mother. I remember she tweeted that he and his other brother were all dead to her and that they killed their mother. He was only a kid at the time. Poor guy.

  5. Some numbers for services here if anyone needs them:

Number for the Samaritans (Freephone): 116123

    Childline (Freephone): 1800666666

You can also text “HELLO” to 50808 if you’d find it easier to communicate via text.

Pieta House can be a fantastic resource, and having a GP who will listen is also of huge benefit. From my own experience, my GP a few years back managed to get me crisis therapy for eight weeks. It was limited, yes, but not being stuck on a huge waiting list was massive. If I remember the name of the scheme I went through for it, or if someone else knows, I’ll update the information with it.

  6. She’s known great success and adulation but also seems disproportionately beset by tragedy and sorrows few would experience in the course of multiple lifetimes.

Few have likely experienced the dizzying highs or potentially soul destroying lows of SO’C..

Hopefully her family will rally around one another and collectively offer the care and moral support they’ll all likely need in the aftermath of the unexpected and tragic bereavement.

  7. The amount of people here suggesting people should be imprisoned for having a mental illness is insane, for want of a better word.

  8. This is so fucking sad. Her emotions when he was missing were so strong and desperate. Doubt her life will ever be the same, she and hers must be shattered.

  9. Unbelievably tragic, the poor boy and the poor family left behind. Just awful that he didn’t get the help he needed in time.
I hope Sinead and everyone else affected have people supporting them.

Reminder to donate to Pieta House: https://www.pieta.ie

Of course mental healthcare should not be left up to charities, but they do great work saving lives every day.
    So much more is needed.
Quality mental healthcare should be a No 1 priority for any government.

  10. Horrible news. Bless you SO.
Love or hate her, she was right about most of her targets. The shredding of her moms pope photo on SNL was about what again? Oh yeah, the blatant, widespread & continuous sexual abuse of kids in the Catholic church.

  11. Christ that’s heartbreaking. After what she has been through in her life already, I can’t imagine how devastating this tragedy must be for her.

  12. I feel such sadness for Sinéad, her music has given me so much joy over the decades.

Her description of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother is heartwrenching. If I was ever fortunate to meet her I’d ask her if I could give her a hug.

  13. One of my besties killed himself when we were 17. I dont think I really ever got over it. The pain is just unbeliveable.

  14. Poor Sinead. Gaybo would be heart broken for her. She hasn’t had it easy. Hope she knows that alot of people care.

  15. Absolutely tragic. Nobody ever gets over a suicide in the family. It follows you forever.

I feel so sorry for her and the family.

  16. Oh, sweet lord, my heart breaks for Ms. O’Connor! I will never forget her in the “Home Alone” series. Losing him like this…I cannot imagine what she’s going through.

😥😥😥 My deepest condolences go out to her and her family.

  17. It’s shocking the mental health services in Ireland, I’ve had to go to therapy and the things I’ve been told were just ridiculous, and the things I’ve seen while in the waiting room were just sad.. I’m wondering how he made it to bray without being spotted? And where in bray was he found, I’m assuming a wooded area, but bray is a coastal town, nevertheless this is very very sad
