  1. Scottish owners named their new properties after places at home. Alness, Ankerville, Belladrum, Borlam, Cromarty, Dunrobin, Fyrish, Glastulich, Golspie, Kilcoy, Kildonan, Lemlair, Locharber, Nigg, Rosehall, Tain, Tarlogie, Brahan, Edderton, Fearn, Foulis, Inverness, Kingillie, Ross, Rossfield, Seafield. Many of which still exist today.

Despite there being former slaves living as free men and women in Scotland from the 1770’s, in 1824 Cromarty, Fortrose and Tain were among Highland towns that sent petitions to Parliament opposing the emancipation of slaves.

  2. I think many of these people were cleared from the North Highlands. that’s maybe how they ended up in Guyana.

  3. Knew Scottish settlement and influence were widespread in Jamaica – Guyana is interesting.

  4. Gets kinda akward when people say that Scotland was colonised by England then you see a bunch of West Indians with Scottish names… Scotland was balls deep in empire and all of the dirt that came with it.
