Disturbing development in Belarus as Lukashenko signs a law granting himself lifelong immunity from prosecution and barring opposition leaders in exile from future elections (the next ones will be in 2025).

  1. Why would you need such a law if “you’re doing your best for the people and do nothing wrong”?

  2. It’s weird dictators sign this kind of laws. It’s funny if he thinks if he will be ousted this law will save him from death or prison.

  3. Now this is a foolproof plan. In case of revolution or if Russia invades, they can’t do *anything* against him.

  4. They don’t even care about concealing it anymore. But they would be wise in remebering Ceausescu, Khadafi and the such. You can only opress a people so much.

  5. In other words, the Dictatorship Law has come into effect.

  6. I hate him even more than I hate Putin. Russian and English are the only languages… he’s killing Belarusian folklore and traditions, language, just to lick Putins ass. Fucking narcissist.

  7. As if laws mean anything in Belarus, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

  8. What stops the next government or dictator from ripping this law apart. Nothing.

  9. Getting a little boring since it’s like a repost of the same news we’ve been having for the past 2 or 3 days.

He can make any laws he wants it is not gonna do him much good when he loses power, he’s stayed so long, he’s destroyed countless of families/lives, he’s been constantly undermining Belarussian identity and culture turning it Russian. I think once he loses power the last thing people are gonna think about are his laws XD

  10. Lukashenko got fucked over by the war in Ukraine a lot. He had such a comfortable spot as a dictator in a relatively ignored country. Now he’s fucked.

He’s essentially up against a timer when Putin tries to replace him unless he joins the war, but then he gets ousted himself since the army will no longer support him.

A Belorusan I know once told me that Lukashenko is actually pretty damn smart. So I’d watch his actions. He must be aware how fucked he is, so he may be trying to find a way out.

  11. This guy is insufferable and that’s mildly stated. How many young critical Journalists and activists are behind bars for years! Disgusting

  12. Remember when this dude was labeled as the last European dictator? Good times, good times…

Now he has some fierce competition in the dictatorship contest. Many want to up their dictatorship game. But he will not hand over the pole position so easily.

  13. Tbh I doubt it would stop a provisional government from summarily executing him on live television.

  14. he’ll die and be replaced by an equally nasty shithead,

  15. Is it just me, or has Lukashenko gained a few kg?

  16. Laws in Belarus, lol. Anyone who will come after him- will sign a law that will just cancel this one. Easy. He have created such system, that law is not something fundamental, but a desire of a local warmonger.

  17. This is the kind of guy Russia would install in all our countries if they could

  18. Is it a ‘development’? Wasn’t it a matter fact for, at least, the last decade?

  19. I’m not sure that rule will mean much when he is eventually shot to death on Plošča Niezaliežnasci.

  20. Is this rotten potato still alive? What grants the wicked such long life?
