>Gardaí investigating an arson attack at a disused hotel in Galway where asylum seekers were to be housed carried out a dawn search on the home of Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Thomas this morning. Gardaí also searched the home of someone known to another FF councillor Seamus Walsh, who told the Irish Independent, “You wouldn’t see it on Love/Hate or Kin,” he said. Councillors Noel Thomas and Seamus Walsh faced criticism from their party for their comments in the wake of a fire at Ross Hill House in Rosscahill, near Oughterard, Co Galway in December
So looking like FF were involved?
>Councillor Thomas and his family including his wife and four children were in the house at the time of the search
Gas, you’re not above the law like, happened to the water protestors too
Right job. Nobody is above the law
Terrorism
Sinister
But like why? Surely you’d need more justification to seize phones than the fact they were against the centres?
So this is what happens when you speak negatively about asylum seekers’ accommodation. Dawn raids headed by ex RUC men.
Vet the males, stop vetting the males. What do people want?
These boys sound like a bunch of loopers I wonder what else they are up to. Trying to pull the Healy Rae rural card no doubt but badly
Fair play to the Guards and doubly delighted that local Galway KKK leaders got a taste of their own medicine.
What exactly was the basis for this search?
Very worrying.
No mention in the Indo article about him being a suspect.
Brilliant
“I will never while there is breath in me cooperate with the guards on anything.”
A surprising comment from an elected representative.

Sounds like ‘obstruction of the administration of justice or the enforcement of the law’ to me. I’m *sure* he will face the full weight of the law and not just be told to ah cop on lad.
This is total bollocks, the councillors in question publicly embarrass the government by questioning their sacrosanct migration policy. There is probably a big concern in official Ireland that this sort of dissent could spread amongst the grassroots.
So the state are making an example of these 2. I would be shocked if they found anything genuinely incriminating. I believe Fianna fall referred them previously to their ethics or complaints department of what ever they are called.
It’s rubbish like this that will cause the protests to spread.
A politician broke the law and is now facing consequences. I’m shocked 😲.
Gards well up for dawn raids when they know they’ll face no resistance. When was the last time they raided a known drug dealer in your area like this?
Good.
The scumbags who committed arson should be punished to the full extent of the law. And if any elected officials were involved, directly or indirectly, they should be punished to the full extent of the law too, just like anyone else would be. What _would_ be worrying is if the Gardai shied away from such searches of elected officials.
The “what basis do they have for these searches?” comments are also quite funny, as if the Gardai should be obliged to share the details of an ongoing criminal investigation.
If you dont think Helen Mcentee is not pressuring Drew Harris who is her colleague to get this case sorted and to make and example of this and this isn’t haven’t trickle down effect on the investigation then maybe you should re think this
So let’s not raid drug dealers houses , instead let’s raid the people who are trying to keep unvetted people who entered the country illegally out of their communities , I’ll probably get banned for speaking logic.
