Disregarding the fact that he’s effectively saying slavery should have been allowed, he’s also completely ignorant (surprise!) of the fact that it *was* negotiated. The Civil War didn’t just happen overnight. There is a long list of various compromise bills and actions, that all tried to balance the desires of both the pro- and anti-slavery sides, that were enacted years before the Civil War started. It was the culmination of years of negotiations, agreements, and concessions, all regarding slavery, failing.
Oh, and let’s not forget that Trump definition of “negotiations” is to basically just give w hatever the other person is asking for. His track record is abysmal in regards to his negotiations.

The South Carolina senator was lionized by southerners, and some, the abolitionist, had permanent brain damage and arguably died from related illnesses. There was no discourse.
Like how he negotiatiated with the Taliban in Afghanistan? Like how he negotiatiated with Putin in Syria and abandoned our Kudush allies? He was president for 4 years, what conflict did he solve with his negotiating skills?

They tried that, Donald. They tried it desperately several times. The most notable negotiations resulted in the 3/5 Compromise, the Missouri Compromise, and the Compromise of 1850.
It didn’t work.
It was negotiated for decades.
But it finally got to a point where the slave power (which had been a majority power and in control in Congress) was about to lose its majority numbers to the free states, and the slave states chose to secede instead.

This is all happening because after the Civil War the confederates essentially received no consequences for their actions. They were given their land back, allowed to run for office, enact Jim Crow, allowed the creation of a revisionist history for the reasons surrounding the Civil War….

Reconstruction was an absolute failure.
They tried with the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850.
Also with the Kansas-Nebraska Act but that was such a shitty decision by Franklin Pierce.

The Civil War was one of those wars that *had* to happen in order to achieve a greater good.
