A brief summary of the changes of our beloved tax system. They upped the *belastingvrije som* from last year 10.160 to this year 10.570
Thoughts?

gonna say what I always say about these: if the median wage is in the top tax bracket, then the income tax scale is essentially flat.
We need a fifth, sixth and seventh bracket which are higher for the real high earners and a drop across the board, dropping the first 25% bracket, which taxes income under the poverty level!
26k and up: 25%
46k and up: 35%
70k and up: 45%
90k and up: 55%
110k and up: 65% etc etc
etc etc. This at least makes the tax free bracket for income better, gives you more take home wage and thus more disposable income.
in the current system, for anything over 46k your tax burden decreases compared to the disposable income you’re making. It needs to be fairer for *everyone*.
So that’s why my plumber and my painter only work 3 days anymore
I’m shocked how unprogressive Belgian taxes are. Single mom working in grocery is taxed the same as a bank director. For comparison, this is the US (where I live). And the US really should not be an example of progressive politics lol. Take into account though that there’s additional state taxes (mine will be another 10%)

I just started working and I’m almost in the highest tax bracket, how does this make any sense. Reward working people (even the ones with high income).
Voor 40% van mijn loon af te geven, wil ik wel meer inspraak over wat er met dat geld gebeurd…
From a Swiss perspective, this is utterly ridiculous.
This should be tied to the index
From 25 to 40% is fucking criminal. So if you earn 15.820, you have to pay 3955 euro, but if you earn 1 cent more you pay 6328 euro. That’s more than 2000 euro more for earning 1 cent more. Taxes are fucked in Belgium.
