> “It’s regrettable and bewildering that the state of Oklahoma is abandoning federal funding and losing an opportunity to address child food insecurity,” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a statement.
Oklahoma is **not** OK – but their local native Tribes offer an example of basic humanness and compassion toward children nonetheless.
Well, this is sad.
Well done, tribes.
>The governor also said he philosophically disagrees with people who think that the government should take care of everybody and more welfare programs are the answer.
The government should take care of everyone..There are lots of different ways to do that..I know I personally would love to get hooked on $40 dollars extra a month in this luxury people call food. I thought their issue was administrative costs though?
great for the tribes to step up..dont the tribes own Oklahoma now, at least the eastern part? How do they feel about the occupiers in their land systematically trying to punish them and preventing outside aid from reaching them.
The soul of a nation is reflected in how they treat their most vulnerable .. prolife in name only .. they have no decency, the tribes offer won’t shame them, they’ll charge them or they’ll have to obtain a pricey permit ..
>The Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw nations will offer the program to eligible Native and **non-Native children** on their reservations.
The tribes opened the program to non-Native children on their reservations as well.
Why on earth would OK decline more federal money?
Cruelty is the point it seems.
The tribes are showing true kindness and humanity.
So, making good on the Thanksgiving myth? Sweet.
This deserves to be upvoted more. What an incredible kindness.
My stepdad (part Cherokee) if he was alive today would be very proud of this.
Having dealt with Cherokee Nation social services in my life I am unsurprised that they’re stepping up in the face of the state government’s failures
Perhaps the objection to receiving this aid is that it would come with some basic federal oversight which, for instance, would not allow any sort of discrimination based on sex, race, gender etc. I’m just speculating, but it seems plausible to me.
Yay, god bless them.
OK is an actual shit hole. The people are poor, the jobs pay low and can be scarce, the highways are exceptionally dangerous, and the governing body is built entirely of religious lunatics that do not care about anyone other than their money.
I never noped the fuck out of a state so fast before. Lived there for 3 weeks.
Hey repugs, this is what true pro-life views look like. Life doesn’t stop at birth.
GOP don’t care about kids once they’ve hatched. Pro life agenda ends there.
Making children go hungry is a conservative value.
Shame them by doing their job for them, and better than them. Good to see someone stepping up for the children
The “pro-life” Republicans want to starve people to death.
Unreal these Bible thumpers can talk about grace and forgiveness as a gift and hallmark of their faith and consistently, across the country treat people like they do and run government out of spite and vindictiveness. The shame of a nation.
