Anas Sarwar says Scotland can ‘lead’ the way in booting out the Tories

  1. The Tories have already largely been booted out of Scotland. It’s the union that gives Scotland tory governance.

    Regardless if it’s going to be a neo-labour or Tory UK government, Scotland will get what it gets.

  2. We’ve been constantly rejecting the Tories since the 1950’s mate

    It’s not us who are voting then into power

  3. In 2019, the Conservatives won six seats in Scotland:

    * [Banff and Buchan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banff_and_Buchan_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): SNP were second, 40.4%, and Labour were last on 4.1%

    * [Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwickshire,_Roxburgh_and_Selkirk_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): the SNP were second, 38.8%, and Labour were last on 4.7%

    * [Dumfries and Galloway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumfries_and_Galloway_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): the SNP were second, 40.6%, and Labour were second last on 9.2%.

    * [Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumfriesshire,_Clydesdale_and_Tweeddale_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): the SNP were second, 38.3%, and Labour were second last on 2.5%

    * [Moray](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moray_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): the SNP were second, 44.2%, and Labour were third on 5%.

    * [West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Aberdeenshire_and_Kincardine_(UK_Parliament_constituency)): the SNP were second, 41.1%, and Labour were last on 4.6%.

    Labour hold only two seats in Scotland. Their best electoral performance since 2010 was in [2017](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_United_Kingdom_general_election_in_Scotland), when they won 7 seats: none of them from the Tories. Labour haven’t unseated a [Tory MP in Scotland since 1997](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_United_Kingdom_general_election_in_Scotland) and in recent years have stopped trying – preferring to campaign in the central belt against the SNP. Where Labour hold power at a council level, it’s through their preparedness to work with the tories.

    It’s easy — and slightly boring — to point the above out. Given the above, it’s interesting to ask why Labour won’t campaign by trying to make a policy offer to Scottish voters. They are prepared to court voters in England: to appeal to the middle classes, they went from promising to [end tax breaks for private schools](https://twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1742513493268443612/photo/1) on January third to saying they wouldn’t on [January fifth](https://twitter.com/jrc1921/status/1743231822769664406).

  4. He couldn’t lead people down a one way street

  5. Boot out the Tories? When was the last time they were ‘in’ up here?

  6. Ideally they can start by booting out the SNP. The Tories are an irrelevance in Scotland.

  7. We’ve already got that covered fella!
    The SNP are going to take seats from them and hopefully a couple of your mo’s too

  8. Weird to mention “booting out the Tories” when he’s competing with the SNP but he’s playing to the optics as he knows much of Scotland hates the Tories – it’s a pathetic statement then really and cowardly to boot as it comes across as not wanting to take on the SNP and instead plucking the low hanging fruit.

    Just a reminder about this privately educated rich kid’s family’s attitude to the living wage;

    https://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/anas-sarwar-accused-of-living-wage-hypocrisy-over-family-firms-low-pay-4368021

    He’s previously then played the race card to make him and his family out to be the victims in all of this*;

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/19190185.sarwar-claims-bame-politicians-scrutinised-family-challenged-living-wage/

    So we really have a choice of two privately educated rich kids (Yousaf and Anas) – neither of which I’m going to vote for despite voting SNP and Labour in the past, because I trust neither of them to have the best interests in Scotland at heart.

    *classic debating technique privileged rich kids are taught at private school – reverse the role of victim and offender to try and win an argument.

    For the record I’ve absolutely no issues with people being able to afford to send their kids to private schools – I’ve an issue with champagne socialists like Yousaf and Anas bleating on about socialist ideals while enjoying a wealthy and luxurious lifestyle.

  9. For what purpose

    To implement a continuity Tory Government under Starmer

  10. Could’ve done himself a favour by not sounding so scared of standing up to Starmer on Palestine. That would’ve taken away a key facet of the SNP’s appeal.

    We shouldn’t forget this man also was among 10 of his party’s MPs that simply went missing when voting on the bedroom tax.

  11. Like, maybe we can keep him in for another year so he can half inflation again?

  12. This is modern politics where if you have nothing to offer just appeal to the zipped up the back.

    Flip…well tax big oil and gas and the wealthy ( hurray )… flop…actually, no we won’t

    Flip…thousands of new jobs in our green revolution ( hurray )…flop…actually, no we wont

    Flip…well pump billions into the NHS ( hurray )…flop…actually, no, but well talk to private health vampires

    Flip…well stop the Rwanda shite…flop…actually, we won’t, we’ll find somewhere non offensive to send, a Scots Island or.. well think of something

    Labour…well appeal to the working man and woman and fix it all…actually well appeal to Murdoch, the Barclays, the Rothemeres and the South East of England tory vote. Flip fucking flop suckers.

    Remember jocks…the Jack on the flag pole Trumps all other things, now know yer place and vote for us. Bad SNP.
