For real I can’t understand the hate Solothurn faces.
Since 3 years im frequently in Solothurn. And as a proud “Bärner” i must say it’s a very beautiful canton. And in my eyes Solothurn is NOT an irrelevant canton.
Or am I completely delusional and out of my mind??
I need some outside perspective. Thanks!

  2. It’s a high tax, less well connected version of Aargau, and we are hardly the most beloved canton.

  4. i’m from solothurn, i feel like it is a bit irrelevant on the national scale, but i’m not particularly bothered by it.

  5. Its just irrelevant, but great to live and work:
    – Rent Price -> average
    – Jobs -> Big Medical, Manufacturing and Logistics industry
    – Taxes -> Average
    – Healtcare cost -> Low
    – Highway -> great connections to Major Cities under 1 hour, Basel-Stadt, Bern, Zurich
    – Airports -> Basel and Zurich easy in 1 hour with car or train
    – Train: in less than 1.5 in all big Cities above

  6. Solothurn is hated because it is one of the most racist cities in Switzerland.

  7. I live in Solothurn city. It‘s nice and has decent connections to Bern and Zürich. It‘s pretty boring though, especially in winter. No real nightlife and not too many exciting restaurant options.

  11. Nobody hates on Solothurn? Imho it‘s my favorite canton with AG. Life isn‘t expensive, good connections to any major city and lots of holidays compared to filthy berners.

  12. In typical Romand fashion, I only realized that Soleure and Solothurn were in fact the same place when I was like 18. I had heard of the name Solothurn before but had just striked it as some random Swiss-german city. Only when I heard someone mention the canton of Solothurn did it click.

    So yeah I guess it’s just not such a relevant city sorry (tho I have been there since, and it is lovely)
