  1. Translation:

Sweden to contribute with a reduced battalion in NATO’s multinational force in Latvia. That’s what Ulf Kristersson says.

Sweden is to contribute a reduced battalion to Canada’s force in Latvia.

    – We will contribute to NATO’s defense and deterrence. Last year I announced that Sweden – in addition to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing and the cooperation for a European air defense – is also ready to contribute ground combat units in the defense of the Baltic states.

This is what Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) says at the People and Defense national conference in Sälen on Monday.

He also says that this year the government is investing an additional SEK 27 billion in military defence.

    – We are reaching the NATO standard of two percent of GDP. Defense spending will double between 2020 and 2024 – and with large resources comes a great responsibility to use them effectively, says Ulf Kristersson.

  2. Interesting posture I would have expected Swedens focus to be in:
    – Baltic air-policing
    – Baltic sea/Gulf of Finland patrols
    – Lapland Finland/Norway shared border with Russia
    – Arctic Sea
    – Rapid response unit

Somehow this feels like not using their geo location to their advantage. Having the central EU countries move troops to eastern flank would overall provide more man power to eastern flank where as this feels like they are just going up and down the border.

  3. Look at Sweden man just joined and already not a burden.

  4. Now have Poland and Lithuania send a battalion as well and we can do a rematch for Inflanty

  5. Estonia has Finland, Lithuania has Poland, good to know that Latvia has Sweden!
