  1. You would hope that it would be a conflict of interest for any government official and their immediate family to make a profit directly from government policy… Mad that it can become so commonplace that we just begin to accept it as the norm. That said I am sure the majority of these millions are going to non government affiliated private parties. Would love to see a data sheet of each government official revenues derived from gubernatorial contracts though. Would be an interesting read

  2. Yes. Just like every sector where the state doesn’t want to get its hands dirty.

  3. Just from the headline? Yea of course. If the state has to rely on private companies to deal with the stratospheric levels of asylum application? Well private companies are entitled to make a profit.

  4. Yeah of course, and millions more are made from the insurance payouts when the centres and buildings get burned down.

How is anyone surprised by this? Do they think are most entrepreneurs are giving up their resources out of the goodness of their hearts?

  5. Legalised human trafficking, amazing that theres not more resistance to this new human cattle based economy.

  6. If refugees were only able to source housing and living expenses through charity, there would be no refugees here. It’s not goodwill to all mankind that makes refuge possible, it’s the potential for people to profit from them being here.

The whole concept of refugees is supposed temporary refuge until they can return home and avoid these places becoming permanently unlivable due to brain drain. Sadly those who make profits from them being refugees hold too much sway politically across the globe and will always oppose enabling rebuilding their homelands.

  7. Is anyone even shocked? The Government doesn’t give a shit about the housing crisis and would rather spend billions on contracts with hotels than building social housing because its good for vulture funds, landlords and REITs. As for the housing of refugees it isn’t any difference. If a hotel can make more money from housing refugees than housing tourists they’re going to go with housing refugees.
We should always be proud of the help we’ve given refugees but there needs to be a point where we accept the current model isn’t sustainable. People seeing the government move heaven and earth to accommodate refugees while ignoring the housing crisis will only fuel more anger and xenophobia.

  8. For FF/FG a crisis is just a opportunity to shovel public money into private hands.

  9. Yes people that provide services generally make money.

  10. The first clue was Fine Gael using the American private prison system’s financial model. I don’t find it plausible that there was any other goal in mind beyond creating this regulatory capture scheme.
