It’s just an excuse to rise taxes, instead of finding better solution to found defense. If European security has to be built on the shoulders of the poor and forgotten, maybe it’s not worth it.
Remember that it’s our governments duty to defend us against foreign threats like Russia. They don’t get to blame us for not doing enough at our level.
Aren’t they already? Since they still have mandatory military service to this day.

Totalförsvarsplikt is for all residents, and readiness (as is the case here) applies for everyone in Sweden.
This is not only about the military, it’s about that us citizens need to mentally prepare for the eventuality of war. This means prepping food, making sure you have water, batteries, emergency radio and more.
Whenever this topic comes up I like to post a link to this Swedish leaflet from a few years ago about how to prepare for war. (Since I think it’s super cool…)

For a bit of context, there’s currently a defense conference going on up in Sälen, where most politicians (and international guests), are expected to hold a speech.
Not making any judgements, but perhaps a wish to come up with headline-worthy statements might have something to do with these kind of quotes.

Moving from Seattle to Cologne in June, still not totally sure whether I will be more or less likely to be in a war zone assuming Trump wins.
Prepare for the worst but hope for the best.
Trump gets in and Europe is going to war. Russia will move West. We all need to be ready. Russia thinks they can take down Europe with our technology but they are wrong. If Trump supports Russia with arms and money (which is a very real option) we have a problem on our hands.
Feels like we’re already in the early days of WW3

well, if sweden politician like Zelensky he did 4 years ago, the war could be possible. sweden politicians are pushing Sweden into frontline.
