How much would cost to install a fireplace? We are looking for open pipe (like the picture) go through first and second floor and then go out to the roof.

  1. First, you need plans for the installation and you have to apply for building permit, as you are making significant changes to the structure of a house.

If you plan using a lightweight chimney, it has to be able to ’breathe’, so there is certain clearances to any flammable materials, especially in the attic.

    2000 for structural planning,
min. 1000 for architect to update permit plans, 500 for building permit,
    2000-3000 for the chimney parts,
    0-10000 for all structural modifications
+whatever you are ready to pay for the stove

We are looking 5000-20000 depending what type of middle floor and attic structure you have.

If you are planning to do this for heating purposes only, forget it. You’ll never amortize the investment cost. If it is for comfort reasons, then it’s up to you, what is the value of this.

  2. Thanks for your comment. I have the permit.
The labor costs are around 5-20k? House structure is wood based.
The purpose is of course for helping heating. I thought it is good since one of our family house has the fireplace and it is warming quite a lot.

  3. Actual English word for this is “woodstove.” Fireplace is built into the wall usually, not a separate iron device that stands on its own. Good luck!
