Belfast city council are actively useless. No vision or fucks given for what sort of city they want.
People dont want old buildings knocked down, they also don’t want modern, glass office blocks or student accommodation going up.
What do they want?
The building isn’t listed, nor is it in a conservation area or area of townscape character. The owner is entitled to demolish it. The city council have no say. Your gripe should be with Historic Environment Division of The department for communities for not listing the building if you thought it was that special. I’m presume you have been lobbying flat-out for them to list it ?
Or would you rather just wait and react to stuff with…iTs A dISgRaCE StEpHeN sO iT iS
If only you had half as much wit as your name sake
More social housing is good but it’s a shame a relatively attractive building that would very nice if refurbished is being knocked down.
It’s a net positive though.
“Hoping to build social housing” = oh dear it didn’t work out so here is some student accommodation / airbnbs
Just because a building is 150 years old doesn’t mean it’s precious. It’s old, harder to heat than a modern building.
Plus they’re actually building social housing.
This is a disgrace. There should be a moratorium on all buildings built before 1900 being demolished with a focus on covering the existing structure.
We moan about them not building enough homes and then we moan when they knock down older (defunct) buildings to accomodate new builds.
Better not fill it up with fake asylum seekers. Hope locals get those social houses.
