Iowa school shooting: Suspect dead and multiple injured

At least one person has reportedly been killed and others wounded in a shooting at a high school in Iowa.

Police confirmed an active shooter had been reported shortly after 7.40am on Thursday morning at Perry High School, northwest of Des Moines.

Students on their first day back after the Christmas holidays were evacuated from the school.

Lori Meinecke, a teacher at the school, told the local Raccoon Valley Radio station she had heard six or seven gunshots, followed by officials evacuating children.

  9. People will blame the gun but not the actually person who was using it and they will call for guns to be banned if anything this is the opposite of what needs to happen. The more guns people have the safer the country will be. At least people can defend themselves that way.

  23. It is obvious beyond any doubt that this country needs a huge mental health overhaul from what hardly exists.
    All the money being wasted prosecuting election ghosts, all the money sent to foreign countries to fight their wars, how about taking care of your home first? As of late, I do not believe that any of those mass shootings have turned out to be by individuals who just wanted the thrill. It's always stated that individuals were suffering from mental health illnesses.

With the benefit of hindsight, I sincerely hope that lessons will be learned this time, and gun safety laws will be reviewed thoroughly and vigorously to ensure that this doesn't occur again on US soil.
