  1. Here’s a preview of the story:

As a federal court is set to hear whether Donald Trump should have legal immunity for his conduct in the period after the 2020 election through Jan. 6, most Americans don’t think he should be immune from prosecution for actions he took as president. And a narrow majority say the indictments and investigations of the former president are upholding the rule of law.

CBS News’ latest poll asked Americans whether they think that “Donald Trump should have immunity from criminal prosecution for actions he took while he was president.” Over six in 10 disagree with this argument, including solid majorities of Democrats and independents.

By contrast, in the context of the Jan. 6 investigation and charges, most Republicans feel Trump should be immune from criminal prosecution. That includes majorities of both MAGA identifiers and non-MAGA Republicans.

  2. There’s no such thing as presidential immunity.

  3. Doesn’t matter what any of us think.

Immunity for anyone in that position would be disastrous. Good thing the Constitution outlines no such concept.

  4. Look, I don’t like Donald Trump, but in a functioning society he would already be dead.

  5. If Presidential Immunity was a real thing, President Gerald Ford wouldn’t have had to grant a pardon for President Richard Nixon. But it isn’t a real thing, and he did.

  6. The people that think he should have immunity are pretty dumb.

  7. Ok but this isn’t a political question it’s a legal one and there are virtually no legal experts who agree that Presidents have “total immunity”, so the point is, who gives a fuck.

  8. If Trump gets Presidential Immunity, what stops Biden from declaring himself a dictator first?

    An untouchable President is ABSURD

  9. The frustrating irony being that all the ones who think he should, also think Biden should be shot for treason. Like….for fuck sakes.

  10. No one should get immunity. No one should get pardoned. What is this, a monarchy?

  11. This is why i hated all of those “what will be the pushback for indicting trump?” articles. The majority of americans want this fucker gone. Its the same 33-37% who are keeping him in power. Americans at large are done with trump and as long as they get out to vote we will survive this god awful era.

  12. Until the pro Trump/MAGA response is anything beyond 35%+- a few these polls show nothing has changed. His base is 35% always. It’s never really moved from that number.

  13. What a shame it doesn’t matter a fart if the entire voting population thinks that. All apart from one group of nine people, several of whom have shown themselves corrupt. And at least one who has anger management issues and likes beer. A lot. A lot of beer.

And very pretty young female clerks.

  14. Nobody should be above the law and held accountable for any wrongdoings or laws broken.

  15. Why would Trump get immunity? Is he going to testify against Putin?

  16. Anyone who does is an absolute failure of an American.

  17. The poll seems consistent with the percentage of Americans who support Trump.

  18. Without looking I assumed 30% because that’s the magic moron number. It’s a little higher than that.

  19. Riddle me this: Why would he need immunity if he hasn’t done anything wrong?

  20. Any one that claims the Jan 6th criminals (and I put Trump in this group) are hostages are they themselves insurrectionists and should not hold office.

  21. This poll is everything wrong with news today.

“Let’s ask Americans something they know very little about and present their moronic findings as important.”

Who fucking cares what people think? Write a story about the actual law, how it doesn’t cover trump, and how judges should not care what people think and need to follow the law as written.

    Wouldn’t that be great?
