No. They don’t. 281,000 tons in 60 days. That’s nothing. Isreal’s largest coal plant at 2590 MW emits that in about 5 days alone. They have plenty of other coal, gas, and surprisingly oil (really, in 2024?) generation as well. War isn’t great for anyone but investors, but don’t let it distract people from the real criminals of climate change – energy, gas, and oil companies.
For reference, there are ~400 coal plants still operating in the United States.
On a totally morbid note, the casualties of the war so far (~30,000) will offset the emissions after about 2.5 years, so will end up being a net savings assuming the average life expectancy of those killed was longer than 2.5 years (which it sadly, probably was).
4 tons /person / year x ~ 30,000 deaths = ~120,000 tons emissions savings
281k/120k =~2.4 years offset time.
So, all things considered the war is a net savings on emissions at the cost of human life.
Morbid math to prove a point against sensationalist journalism. Focus on the pointless deaths of 30,000 people or how we’re getting fucked by power, oil, and gas companies with absolutely no regard for the future outside of dividends and executive bonuses.

Oil and gas companies love war.
The genocide turns to omnicide.
Wonder what are the numbers for the Ukraine war.
