Found a wasps nest in my loft about the size of a golf ball, can I just grab it and throw it in the bin or do I need people to come in and sort it?

  1. Likely abandoned anyway due to winter but I’d just put a bin bag around it, scrape it in with a wallpaper scraper and then put in the bin. Job done.

You can get some spray if you’re worried and spray it first.

  2. I doubt there will be anything in it but if you put a plastic bag over it and just pull it off you will be fine. If there is any wasp it will be likely hibernating or very slow due to winter.
Edit. I’d ust throw it in the garden or an outside bin.

  3. Put on gloves, pick off, put in tupperware box, put lid on box, go outside, tip in bin. Job done.

  4. Whack it in the air fryer. It will be so crispy.

  5. I learned at a young age one should not poke a lacrosse stick at it. Good luck.

  6. Pretty lucky looks like a started but unfinished and abandoned nest. Scrape it in a bag and get rid. I got six massive ones in my loft that I don’t dare approach.

  7. Golf ball sized you say? Sounds like a job for a golf club

  8. Ooh save it for the kids birthday they love a piñata 🪅!!!

  9. Fun fact. Only the new queens (born this year) will survive the winter, the rest will die off. So this is either last year’s nest or it’s the new one for next year and just contains a hibernating queen and thousands of eggs.

  10. I found one in my shed so I whacked it with a rake and gave it legs

  11. take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

  12. Leave it. The best deterrent for a new wasp nest is an old wasp nest. Any wandering queens will see it and leave sharpish, in fear of going to war.

You can even buy fake wasps nests to put in lofts because it’s so effective. Seriously, just leave it.

  13. Leave it. If you haven’t seen wasps about then it’s likely empty. In fact I think it’ll actually deter other wasps from nesting nearby.

  14. Cut it in half once you dislodge it. The internal structure is v cool. Wasps make paper!

  15. If its about the size of a golf ball, its a solitary wasps nest.

Leave it alone, monitor it to check its not in use now (Which it probably isn’t.) if so the wasps will have abandoned it, so its harmless.

But, as wasps are territorial and will not build a nest near an existing one, leave it so this acts as a natural deterrent.

  16. I’ve got one in my loft the same same size. Been there since I moved in…..25 years ago 😁

  17. If it’s empty you might want to just leave it, as wasps won’t usually nest near an existing nest. So might prevent a new lot coming this year.

  18. As you say, it’s the size of a golf ball, so why on earth would you need people to come in and sort it? Are you worried it might be some kind of wasp Tardis with thousands of wasps hiding inside?
